Cons: The apartments are really old and the renovations typically consist of making the apartments look good on the outside. Once every couple of months, you'll encounter a pipe burst causing the water supply to get shut off for half a day. Pros: The staff is friendly and helpful, the rent is not very expensive . Also, this is probably the only location which appears on 2 separate bus routes to campus. Groceries are easy since its a 5 min walk to HEB.

These apartments are really really old. Some of the buildings are under renovation. However, they are renovating the outer facade only. Complaints are sometimes taken seriously and promptly. Staff in the office are welcoming.

The only pros to this apartment is its location and price. Apart from that, the management is horrible, I've never seen anything like them....

The only pros to this apartment is its location and price. Apart from that, the management is horrible, I've never seen anything like them. They lie to you constantly, DON'T BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY UNLESS IT IS WRITTEN DOWN, and always, ALWAYS protect your own right. The apartment itself is worn down and old, we've actually had a bedroom's bathroom ceiling catch on fire due to aging wires, good thing nobody was hurt due to quick action.

I can't tell if my experience living at Scandia got better as my lease continued or if I just got used to how mediocre it is. Pros: Location to HEB, bus routes, cheapish, quiet neighborhood. Cons: Old, janky appliances and doors, flooding, maintenance sucks. My biggest problem was the staff. They often messed up my payments and bills. I was told there was another resident in my building by the exact same name, which I know is a lie and the Scandia team is just incompetent. There is a fee added to utilities to cover their "security lighting" which is around 30 extra dollars a month. Overall, it worked for me as a student but I was so motivated to get my degree so I'll never be forced to live in a place this mediocre ever again.

I have been a resident of Scandia for the last four years. The two major pros are its excellent location on the TAMU shuttle route with access to both route 26 and 27 and also its closeness to grocery (HEB) , restaurants, coffee places, parks etc. The rates are competitive and not unreasonably high. Compared to the above positives, the drawbacks outweigh them by quite a distance. The management (DTI properties) keeps on shuffling the employees between their various properties and hence there is no sense of responsibility or accountability whatsoever in the office staff. Each and every maintenance request takes about 3-4 business days to be attended to and that too after several trips to the office to remind them. The reply they give every time is "Since this is not an emergency maintenance, hence your complaint will be attended in the order in which it was received", except of course if you flood your house or burn it down triggering a major emergency. The emergency phone number (for weekends) is a joke. It is not manned or monitored at all. Any request put in the voicemail does not get to the request register at all. I learned this the hard way after having waited for them to come and then later finding out that they never received the request. The appliances, carpet and closets are either of poor quality or very old and hence very prone to frequent damages and need repairs. Every time you will have to go through the excruciating waiting period of 3 - 4 days. My personal record is almost 3 months which they took to replace one of the burners on my oven. So in conclusion, except the advantageous location your stay here will most likely be a bitter and wretched experience. Why did I linger for four years. Just to avoid the hassle of finding a new place and going through the herculean task of moving with all the furniture which involves endless packing, cleaning and what not. Probably not one of my better decisions in life.

The whole time I lived here as a student with my boyfriend, the place was decent. The location is awesome, there's a park across the street for my dog, and it's calm/quiet. When we moved in, the door didn't lock or even close without some elbow grease. We told the apartment staff but they didn't come to fix it. My dad spent a few hours fixing it because the door was actually too big for the apartment... weird. Also, one of the toilets didn't even work and the bathtub in that room wasnt connected to the water supply somehow. Eventually they came and fixed it but I bugged the office A LOT. But since it was $1000 a month for two beds, so 500 each, we loved living here. When it came to move out, we did everything perfectly. I've lived in a lot of apartments so I knew to lift the stove and clean the grease, we steam cleaned the carpet, fixed the blinds. It was NICER than when we moved in. We left our forwarding address. We never got our deposits back. We had a normal and pet deposit. I called the office a few times and they said they're working on it. Eventually since it took longer than 30 days (and in TX, they have to triple your deposit), they forwarded me to their california office. These people eventually said we didn't leave a forwarding address, and that we actually owed them money for not cleaning the stove. They sent us a letter (AT OUR FORWARDING ADDRESS we supposedly never gave them) with a "bill" for $75. Point is, if you live here, don't take the time to clean up when you go. They're crooks in the end.
