Tl:dr Madison Pointe has done illegal things and should credit me back my $175
My first year was good. My main problem was roaches in my bathroom (of which I am terrified) They said theyre probably just coming in through the vent" and refused to fix it so I would only go in my restroom when needed. I would do my makeup/fix my hair in my room so I wouldnt have to be in there because they were popping up almost everyday. (This comes into play later)
I renewed, but I did a lease transfer into a two bedroom to get a roommate.
When able to get a new unit, I came to get keys, because I had a guest who could help me move, but Abby said I had another charge. I already paid the $300 transfer. She showed me my lease with an application fee and administrative fee. The application fee should not have applied my old info would transfer over already being a resident. The administrative fee was written in IN PEN after I signed. I told Abby they couldnt write things in after I signed, and she said condescendingly, Actually, we can. I snapped back, ACTUALLY, you CANT. My mom works in property law so I know my rights. After arguing with her for an hour. Lisa agreed to take off charges.
In the new unit, the thing that immediately hit me was the smell. It smelled of mildew, so I held my nose. Walking the unit, I noticed the surfacing on the kitchen counter tops were badly chipped, there was a hole in the back of the pantry, and no refrigerator. The smell became unbearable to be in there with and I started gagging and ran outside to puke.
I told Lisa the issues and they said the smell was the new carpet (Ive never known new carpet to have that smell), they couldnt get the counter tops fixed because that is contracted out and they wouldn't come for one counter, and they couldnt get me a refrigerator until later that week.
I told them the unit was unacceptable as is so Lisa said she would send maintenance over to see what they could do for the counters.
I come back the next day to find they had just dripped wall paint on to the counter. I asked for a new unit.
When I was able to get a livable unit I had 2 days to move. That was a problem because A. I worked on campus about 12 hours a day (I let them know this), B. My moving help was now busy, leaving me to move almost everything myself, and C. I had, what was in the news at the time, The Sorority Plague, which was a pretty nasty case of the flu.
I was stuck moving my entire apartment myself while having to work 12 hrs a day and with a 100+ degree fever.
I was moving stuff out until 5AM the morning of the first day of class. I had to be at work at 6. Trying to catch 30 minutes of sleep, I ended up crashing. I got to work 4 hours late. Thankfully work was pretty understanding, but had I had a less understanding boss, I could have been fired for being 4 hours late in our busiest time of the year.
Due to all of these issues, I had no time at all to do any cleaning in my old unit. They charged me $175 to clean. They said they spend two hours cleaning my bathtub. Which makes sense it would be dirty because I would not spend more than the time it took to use the restroom and shower because of the roaches they refused to fix.
So, charging me $175 to clean a unit I didnt have any time to clean because they didnt give me a livable unit outright. Funny thing is, I would have had to throw away about $300 worth of frozen meat since they wouldnt give me a refrigerator until later that week. Would they have reimbursed me for that?
I refused to pay, until we had to sign a renewal, but they wouldnt let me do it until I paid. I called Adara spoke to I think Cindi who said she would come hear me out. I said great and told her I had work in the morning but after 1:30ish I could talk. She did come that day, but during the time my work hours. She and Lisa decided the charges were good without talking to me, but I went ahead and paid it because it was too late to find another place and I was not about to make my roommate and I homeless over their BS & would fight it later
