I stayed with The Albert for 12 months and while I might recommend it to anyone looking for short-term luxury apartment living in downtown Detroit, there are a few things I believe people should be aware of. Pros: - The staff is amazing, especially the concierge and maintenance team. They always greet you and are always courteous and professional. Easily my favorite aspect of the apartment. - The amenities, such as the gym and laundry room, are very nice. The gym has your standard equipment, and some free weights. The laundry service takes credit cards directly which is convenient. - Great location, very close to everything downtown. - Storage options. - Pet friendly. - Generally I've encountered nothing but friendly neighbors. Cons: - Outside noise - If you are facing the alleyway, which was the case with me and many others, you will need to get used to being woken up in the middle of the night several times due to garbage collection. The earliest I've heard them was 3am, and they even collect on weekends. Complaints to the city don't seem to help, and I don't see this changing any time soon. This is generally out of the Albert's control, but it is still something anyone living here should be aware of as it affected the quality of life there pretty heavily. - I moved out in April and have yet to receive my security deposit check. The Albert and their parent company, Broder Sachse, take about 30 days on average to return it to you. It's been almost two months for me, and I have moved maybe a mile or two away. For whatever reason they are very slow to get you back your money, so be aware of that as well. - One bedrooms can range from $1,300-$1,600 with utilities/parking on top of that. While not the most expensive in the area, in my opinion it is a bit pricey for the overall value. I don't believe living here long term is financially feasible unless you work downtown.

I am skeptical about this place. I filled out an application and submitted my fees but have yet to see the apt. I recently moved to Detroit and looking for an apt that would accept my large dog. I thought this would be ideal but as I got further along in the process, things started getting shady. My credit score is well over 700 but yet I need to pay a full month and a half for security deposit. Ridiculous! I've been asking to look at the apartment itself and my requests have been ignored and rejected. How do these management people think that one would sign a year's lease for an apartment that cannot be viewed until move in. That's absurd. Needless to say I am no longer excited about moving into The Albert. I wish I could get my holding fees back but im sure that won't happen. I'm seriously disappointed in the management's procedures. Do better.

I stayed here when they first open during construction. The worst thing to do. For my showing Sara was not there and did not inform the other agent and she had a showing the same time as mine. I had to wait. I have had several leaks in my ceiling and ruined my couch. They did pay the expense to clean but it did not clean the water stain. Broken elevators, cat hair in the washers, the maintenance is awful. They leave your apartment nasty especially when they do plaster work and rinse out brushes in your sink on your glassware!!! Footprint traces were all over my floors. They heat was always broken during my first 5 months. The water would be off for repairs every month. And if it was on it was cold. Toilet overflowed. Not to mention the NOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a mixed used zone, so the commercial stores garbage trucks will come daily at 5am LOUD banging the dumpsters any chance they get. Construction was non stop streets were always closed, traffic galore. Waaaaaayyyy overpriced for the product. Management is horrible, I even contacted the corporate offices and never got a response ever. I counted the days for lease to end. Thank GOD

What other building will go above and beyond for their residents like The Albert? I don't know, but today I needed to scan a document to send to a new employer and Sara Sears (leasing manager) immediately stopped what she was doing in order to help me out. She saved me from taking a trip to FedEX that I didn't have time for today. That's just a small example of the kindness and attention that is given to the residents of this building. My girlfriend and I moved in here last June and recently re-signed our lease without hesitation. We absolutely love it here. It's a dog-friendly building and a great place to live.
