Welcome to The Village, the worst place to live in Columbia!! My last review got deleted so Ill just write another one. I wish I had something positive to say, but I dont. I live next to 28 year old drug dealers (no, you dont have to be a student to live here!) and the chaos that goes down at night is absolutely unsafe. The cops are next door all the time for various different things. I was locked out of my apartment in the middle of the night with my dogs, while the on site security could do nothing because they do not have keys to let anyone in. What is the point of having on-site security when they legally cant help you with anything-just to be able to tell people that there is security here? Of course, no one was able to get in touch with management so I had to break into my own apartment and cause damages to my windows and screens so I didnt have to sleep in my car in the parking lot. I feel like I live in the hood, and I pay more for rent than my parents pay for their mortgage in a very nice subdivision. Utilities are not as advertised, its a scam! Pay the extra money to live closer to campus, you are certainly not getting the safety and enjoyment you are promised here. I am so excited to move out today, it has been the worst experience. PARENTS: DO NOT SIGN YOUR NAME ON A LEASE HERE, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!! By the way, the 5 star reviews for this place are the people who work here, who should probably start doing their job a little bit better so they wouldnt have to pretend to be students and write fake reviews.

I honestly wouldnt recommend this place. First off you dont even get a bang for your buck here. Second they have these stupid electric keys for your apartment door that works when it wants to! And Im sick and tired of trying to get it reprogrammed. They also recommend after hour security in case of a emergency but their barely useful them selves! I was recently locked out of my apartment, and called for someone to let me in. I was told that someone would be on their way but it would take a while! Which was fine. But I waited to so long until I fell asleep in my car and no one never came. The maintenance guy or whoever he was that was suppose to open my door showed up at 10am the next morning, after I was let in by my roomate. These were his exact words!! I couldnt make it out here last night because I live a hour away I was so pissed and still am upset. Like dude was my safety and well being not important to you! Is it not your job to answer emergencies!!!! So I went to the office to speak with someone about it, and was told that the manager would be calling me about the issue. Still till this day no phone call! Im just over and done the THE VILLAGE!

I moved into the Village in August of 2017. When I signed a lease they told me I would get an Apple TV but they were currently out and would call me when they had more in. I never got a call from them and it took me calling 3 times (weeks apart) for them to finally have one for me. This was not a big deal to me but just want to give the full experience I had. When I moved in, my apartment was disgusting. It was very evident that it had not been cleaned. I was very upset about this because I had asked if I could move in early due to obligations for organizations I was involved in but they said I couldn't because they would be deep cleaning my apartment. There was a huge issue with pest control not coming out for 6 weeks after we had complained and put in multiple maintenance requests. They kept telling us they would come to our apartment but didn't for 6 weeks. My bathroom door frame was clearly chewed up by a dog before I moved in and it wasn't fixed which is not a huge deal but kind of gross. The living room blinds were also chewed up and not replaced before we moved in. I received a random roommate in February, which is fine, but the staff assured me that if there were ANY issues at all to let them know and they would be handled. I let them know that there were clear signs of illegal activity going on in the apartment and they said they would handle it after contacting all of the appropriate management parties. I was given a call a few days later to tell me there was nothing they could do for me and that my only option was to call the police. I didn't want my roommate to face legal actions I just wanted the illegal activity to stop. They had previously told me ANY issues would be handled but when I stated an issue that was not the case. Even after I sent them proof nothing was done. They said we would have a roommate mediation but then never followed up about setting up a time. The apartments are beautiful and very spacious for the price but the lack of support from the management team really left a bad impression for me. I don't think that I asked for much from them just that I lived in a home that I felt safe and comfortable in. I ended up moving out early but I was still required to pay my rent just not utilities for the time I was not there.

They charged him for the whole month of June although he was there for just a day. Didnt tell him that upfront. I realize he should have maybe read things through with a fine tooth comb but I feel like they should have had the decency to tell him to just wait until July 1 to move in. Im very upset that this happened to him.

Ive stayed at the village for a year and i renewed my lease and got a really good deal and they are waiving my utility fees. Maintenance comes at least the next day when you put in a request if not the same day, only bad thing is how much overage utilities are but mine are waived for next year. I love the village and dont ever have problems with anything!!!

They have owed me a refund of $500 since JANUARY!! I emailed them several times about it. They claimed they weren't aware that they owed it to me. The last time I contacted them, in March,I was supposed to receive a check within "30 days from their response". Guess what.. 30 days has passed, still no check. The apartment manager is NEVER on site! You cannot get a straight answer about anything from the staff. Also, the utilities are insanely high. It averages about $150 a month - per person. For a 4 bedroom apartment, that's $600 - for utilities!!!! There's no reason why they can't charge you for your individual apartment. Instead they "claim" to take the total bill for the complex and divide it by the number of tenets. However, you never get to see the bill. If they offer you the sign-up deal of "$500", do not take it. Take the deduction in rent, instead. The $500 comes in the form of 5 - $100 visa cards that cost $5 to activate EACH. There are better places! Do NOT live here.

I have a relative that used to live in here. She moved out because they were adding other tenants bill on her account and they tried to have an almost 250 dollar light bill on her when she wasn't even home for a month and a half. So how does the light bill get so high when no one was there. These people in the office don't have a clue on what they are doing. The reason they can't get nobody to renew they lease or sign here is because they don't want to fix nothing and the whole place is invested with roaches. Resident's getting fed up. They were paying SEWAGE, WATER and LIGHTS. They were charging tenants 5 dollars a day if the rent wasn't paid by the 3rd. Which state law says the 5th. Just glad my relative found her a 3 bedroom brand new house for 300 dollars cheaper than what she was paying here. Oh and did I mention that they are being investigated by my relative uncle who is a JUDGE and a LAWYER! AND THOSE 5 STAR REVIEWS ARE FROM PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE

(UPDATED) STAY AWAY! This place used to be great before the new owners took over. They got a middle man "utility billing company" that definitely does not charge based on what the actual electrical usage is. They charge a million service fees for electric and water. Also, they took away cable, so now to have cable, you HAVE to go through the company selected by The Village and it costs a ton extra per month. And it's infested with roaches, despite the monthly pest control visits. Also, the campus shuttle breaks down literally all the time. It's a nice place to live, but definitely NOT WORTH IT. UPDATE: The owner responded to my original review and said the utilities are charged solely based on usage but that is complete BS. I lived there BEFORE the utility billing through Conservice and our utility bills were $30-50 cheaper per month PER PERSON in a 4 BEDROOM apartment. As a whole 4 bedroom apartment, I know for a fact we didn't use $200 more in utilities per month on average after the change to Conservice. However, we were charged as such. They play it off like they are billing on usage, but something criminal is DEFINITELY going on here.

Much like the response time of maintenance, it has taken over 3 months for this not to be addressed. Yes you heard that right folks, 3 months of constant badgering to management and still nothing done. This is just one of many examples of how management treats you like a wallet and not a person. If you want to enjoy your year, live anywhere but here. Good day.

She has never had a security issue and we have peace of mind knowing they have a great new security team and police officers living on site. The maintenance team has always been great and I highly recommend The Village.

I have lived in The Village for 3 years. I love the community and the clubhouse and amenities are great! The apartments are spacious, stylish, and the walk in closest are a plus. The staff are all extremely friendly and the maintenance crew is very nice and fixes things in a timely manner. The shuttle to campus is super convenient and the drivers are really sweet. The apartments are a decent size and the walk in closets are awesome. At night there are security guards who drive around the apartment complex which makes residents feel safer. Overall, The Village is a great place for a college student to live. It is not very close to campus but the bus and amenities make up for the distance.

Over the past couple of years I have enjoyed living in the Villages but I am about to graduate and it is time to move on. It is in a great location for football games and going out on the town as well as not too far from campus either. There are many amenities such as washer and dryer or even a dish washer. I would definitely recommend to anyone in need of affordable living in a fun college atmosphere!

I love the village! Rooms are spacious and the appliances and amenities are great never had an issue with anything in the apartment. The staff at the office are all nice and caring. The clubhouse always has free food or events going on and they are always handing out free merch! I've never had a problem with insects and any issues we have had in our apartment (like our electronic key battery dying) the maintenance staff fixed it in no time. I have lived here for three years of my undergrad and don't regret it one bit. Definitely a great place to check out and live!

We sent in MULTIPLE requests for necessities to get fixed including our dryer, microwave, and most importantly, our door-lock and we have yet to get any of it fixed. We continue to call and complain and they say "we'll be there in 30 minutes" and here we are 3 weeks later and they still haven't come. Also we heard gunshots in the middle of the night and saw the feds drive by our house and we told them the next morning and THEY IGNORED US. Oh and when we moved in, our place was disgusting and one of my roommates didn't have a bed and we didn't have any furniture in the living room. We called them and they came in and brought the stuff in and cleaned it after about 8 hours after they said they would, but it should've already been done. Most likely not living here again next year. $600 a month plus utilities for this bs? NOT WORTH IT!

This is the most awful place I have ever lived at. I already pay $655 to live here and each month my rent comes out to be around $800-$815. Electricity is insanely high regarding the fact that my roommate and I are barely home to begin with. They told me that it's because my chargers are plugged in. There are bugs that keep coming into my townhome and they claim they come out and spray, but I've never seen them. Also, they claim that the bug problem is my fault and that I will have to pay if they find them when I make sure my place is clean every week. They try to take as much money out of you as possible and really do not care about you as a person. Tried transferring for the past month and still has not happened. Instead management said they will do it "when they have the time," but it seems like they have plenty of time giving feedback on here. Also, if you wanna feel safe don't move here. Random people walk around at night and there is hardly any lighting anywhere. They are not willing to fix the lights either. Instead of caring about their residents or sending maintenance when needed, they sit at the clubhouse and hand out food! Save your money and your life and find somewhere else to live!

I have had nothing but terrible experiences with this apartment complex. Utilities are insanely high each month, 70-180 dollars PER person. Water is billed per building, so no matter what you do you will never be able to get that bill down. We have tried energy saving "tips", but these have gotten us nowhere. Every apartment is ROACH infested and appliances are mostly broken. We recently went without consistent running water for three months and a broken dryer for four months before anything was done to fix it. Maintenance and Management provide no compensation or assistance for problems had by tenants. They are very polite and I have had positive experiences with them individually, but overall when it comes to giving actual answers and getting things done in a remotely reasonable or timely manner, they fail. Lastly, the complex is extremely unsafe- someone was shot in the lot in May and kidnapped out of it in August, but the Village keeps these incidents on the DL and won't even text alerts to their tenants when these sort of things happen. Gunshots are heard regularly by tenants. I don't know a single person that lives here and doesn't regret it!

What isnt advertised is rent goes up each month, we dont know what we really charge you for, electricity bill is ridiculous no one at the office, not even Management can give you a clear answer of what you are being charged for. When I signed my lease rent said $609 a month.. I calculated extra fees of course... but I did not calculate paying more than $700 for rent! The only thing decent about the village is the look of the apartments on the website. Other than that theyre a scam. Im currently stuck in a lease. Ill never recommend this to anyone. And I will always let people know when they ask about it. Might as well include the speed bumps in the rate for messing up peoples tires.

Oh and make sure you keep your account current and at zero and management won't bother you with endless emails. They will also CHARGE YOU TEN DOLLARS AND YES I SAID TEN DOLLARS TO PAY YOUR RENT ONLINE! The place was filthy when we moved in. Maintenance will not come out unless you bug them repeatedly, and when you do call, they just say they'll check on it for you. I literally had my front door not lock for over a week, and someone at some point said they fixed it, but they did not. I had to do that myself. My personal toilet did not work for over a week, and they did not come out for that either. I had to do that myself as well. I've heard a lot of people around me have roaches, but I currently have only seen a few. They are more interested in your money than you. Don't rent here.

Hi guys, I currently live at the village and moved in about a month ago. Please, for your own safety, do not live here. Over the summer a girl got kidnapped out of our parking lot, and the village said they would get us security, but I've never seen them. They didn't install any other safety features or extra cameras. There are only cameras installed at the entrance of the apartment complex, and those clearly are not enough. Our community isn't even gated. There are always people who don't live in the apartments coming and loitering in the parking lot outside my building. Last night my roommate had to call the cops because two of these people started a fight with our next door neighbor, and after our neighbor went back into her apartment to hide, they called ten of their friends and started terrorizing the apartment, banging on the door and throwing things. It's not safe here. And in the lease the Village waives all liability for keeping the property and residents safe, so there's nothing I can do about it. It's not safe, please do not live here. Especially if you are a girl.

It's a decent spot to live, just not comfortable. Pro:A lot of space and updated units

My daughter is the one who was kidnapped & robbed (and threatened with sexual assault) at gunpoint a couple of weeks ago and I have serious concerns about the lack of concern for tenants safety there. According to The State Newspaper, this was the THIRD armed robbery within a couple of weeks in that complex and NO WARNINGS were sent to the tenants!!!!! The parking lots are DARK DARK DARK with VERY FEW LIGHTS and many of the lights that are there are burned OUT. I was told that they are "on a long waiting list" to have the bulbs replaced. A friend of mine who lived there 2 years ago was told the same story. The shrubs are very tall with low hanging trees to look "woodsy" (it's dangerous). Also, the utilities are ridiculously high. Yes, the tenants are 'in charge' of the electric usage BUT the water bill is the bill for the entire complex (including irrigation, pool, clubhouse, etc) and there is NO WAY for renters to minimize that amount. To add insult to injury, you are charged 4.50 a month to calculate your utility bill - yes, they charge you to bill you. I will say that when I told the apt. manager about the attack on my daughter they allowed her & her roommate to move free of charge and allowed her a lot of time to get her belongings from the old apt. They need to be upfront about the terrible utility bills and they REALLY need to fix the lights they have, add more lights and cut down/rip out the overgrown trees & bushes. They owe it to their tenants, mostly naive students with long distance parents paying the bills, to provide a SAFE AS POSSIBLE ENVIRONMENT.

This place is the worst. Any time a maintenance request was put in they would say they came out and fixed it but no one showed up to the apartment. The whole complex is littered with trash. Employees in the office never have a clue what is going on. They also do utilities through a company called conservice which is a scam. Two months of utility bills were "estimated" to be twice what we normally owed. Do not live here is is the nastiest most unsafe apartment in Columbia. You're better off paying the extra $100 a month to live close to campus.

My son roomed with two friends here for one year. While you're promised the most relaxed, well maintained and safest experience while living here, in reality you receive the exact opposite. Move in day we all walk in to a filthy place from top to bottom. Furious, myself and another mom went to find the property manager. She sent two girls, who half cleaned it up a little. From a dusty floor where they had laid tile strips in the living/kitchen area the day we walked in AND reported it to the manager, got a promise it would be taken care of, to fighting roaches the entire stay (yes, this too reported and was supposedly taken care of; Never was it). To a bedroom about to cave in at the fake "patio" looking door, a stopped up bathtub that everything in the world was used by the boys to fix it, maintenance never showed up about the issue when reported. The apartment complex is not safe. Many things go on day and night there that are unbelievable. Don't let them tell you any different! We got the whole welcome the the Village spill and how wonderful the stay would be. The total opposite was received. Thank goodness they are OUT of this place!

DO NOT LIVE HERE. When I first applied, I thought "wow this place is fantastic." However, as the year ran on, I found the utility bill to be ridiculous. The utility bill in a 4d 4bth would be between 85-100 dollars a month. They rob college students blind. When a girl was kidnapped in the parking lot, the Village didn't go out of their way to warn or tell residents about the situation. The parking lots aren't even properly lit up at night. At night, I often hear gunshots. One night I heard over 10 gunshots outside of my window, and when I followed up with management they didn't seem all that concerned. That wasn't even the first night I had ever heard them. I never felt safe there. I would never recommend anyone to live here.

Its an alright place to live. The charge for utilities is insane (water, electric, sewage) its an extra $80 or more a month on top of rent when it used to be included. You can see the spot in the wall where cable TV used to be which you now have to pay roughly $80 a month or more for something I think should be included and is included in many other areas around Columbia such as Green Crossing and Stadium Suites. Definitely not bad, the clubhouse amenities are nice (if you ever use them). For the price you pay for what you get. Friendly staff, eh location, free parking and reliable shuttle system are some other points worth mentioning. Not resigning because too many maintenance issues when I first moved in as well. Took them two weeks to actually get a competent person out to my apartment to fix the air conditioning which wasn't working properly. Every maintenance person lied to me and claimed it was working when my room was 80 degrees while the thermostat was set on 70. Took me complaining everyday to some manager that finally got a real air conditioning company to look at the unit. So that got me off of the wrong foot. Since then they have attempted to make up for it by fixing many other issues like no functioning ice maker, no sink stopper, no toilet paper holder, cracked microwave, broken drawer under the oven and no drip pans on the stove. I still can't get that bad taste out of my mouth for the terrible move in experience. Appreciate their attempt at trying to do better.

I can't wait for my lease to be up so I can move. It took 2 months to get my oven fixed, thankfully that was the only time I had to deal with maintenance. I'll admit the place is beautiful on the outside, the look really fits the name "the village." In short the staff have been slow and very dishonest. The shuttle sometimes leaves students behind on busy hours and is unreliable as it breaks down a lot. I had to pay for parking when I got left behind and was almost late for my final exam. I love my closet because it's huge. My roommates and I had nothing in common depsite me being told that I would be matched with people with similar interests and habits. Looks great, but outward appearance isn't what's most important. You'd be better off at The Southern across the street. Have a friend that lives there and he loves it and it's not as expensive as the Village.

Just a PSA: If you value your life, please do NOT sign a lease at the Village. There is frequent gun violence and residents have been SHOT walking around the complex. There is also dhec violations of unsanitary conditions. Trash piles up for days on end out of the one dumpster that they have onto the street of the front entrance and the dog poop containers are never emptied. Not to mention a horrendous bug infestation that cannot be solved because the exterminator only comes once a month. Worst of all management is absolutely nonexistent unless they're trying to scam you out of money for absolutely nothing. I can provide you with a wealth of information on the better and safer apartment complexes to live in Columbia. Please live anywhere else but here. I just want to make sure that no one else is scammed by these people and remain safe.

My apartment is very spacious and I have a huge walk in closet and large bathroom! The maintenance is great and they respond to work orders quickly. LEASE HERE!

I lived at the Woodlands for 3 years from sophomore to senior year when I was going to Carolina and loved it! It is a great place to be able to get away from campus without being too far from everything (right down from the stadium, close enough to nightlife, etc.) The shuttle was awesome when I figured out my schedule and how it lined up with the shuttle to and from campus, hardly ever had to drive which was nice. It even ran to and from 5 points. How great is that? The staff at the Woodlands was nice from the office staff to maintenance. They all wanted to do a good job and to make the residents happy as best they possibly could. I was amazed to see how well the staff was able to deal with resident issues in the most pleasant way possible and try to make the best solution possible. The units were great. Plenty of room and nice appliances. I lived in a 4 bed room townhouse with dogs and we had a great time. There is plenty of room in the common area with a bar and porch both front and back and the bedrooms are plenty spacious with private bathrooms and walk in closets. Honestly for this being a college apartment complex it was very nice! Everything is well taken care of unless it gets broken and then maintenance is quick to fix whatever it is to get it back into working order. And most definitely a selling point is the pool. After a long day of class or work who doesn't like to come home to a large relaxing pool to relax and even play some volleyball. Sounds like a nice place to me. I would recommend living in the Woodlands to anyone looking for a place to live while going to Carolina.

I lived at The Woodlands for three years during college. I moved in at the beginning of my sophomore year and come the end of senior year I was sad that I had to leave. I absolutely LOVED the staff and everything about my apartment. One of the things that I liked most about The Woodlands was the furnished apartments. I also love the amenities that The Woodlands offers, such as the huge pool, sand volleyball court, on-site parking right at your doorstep, 24/7 gym, and the shuttle to USC campus & Five Points. I am still in the Columbia area but have moved out of The Woodlands ONLY for the fact that my job is in Northeast Columbia and the commute was too long. I would highly recommend this place for students looking for off campus housing!

My Son lived here for 2 years while in college. We were so happy with the experience that he had. I have heard from some of my other friends that they had nightmares dealing with student housing and I just never had these issues with the Woodlands. The apartments are so nice and they come furnished so I didn't have to buy much for him to move in. He loved the pool and the shuttle to campus, also I know that he met a lot of good friends there. I wish we could keep him there for a third year but he is moving out of state for a job. Looking for a safe community with lots of space? This is the place to be!
