Canalside Lofts
Amazing place in a great location. Close to everything downtown and next to the Riverfront Park. The office is always extremely helpful and throw awesome events for the community.

I have lived in several other apartment communities in the area, and canal side is by far the best. I am going on my second year of living here and it is the first time I renewed a lease. The proximity to the greenway is a huge plus for me, my dog and I walk the path several times a week. I like that there are so many various floor plans to choose from. There are a few things that bother me (units dont come with washer/dryer, most dont have a balcony) and I think the units will need an upgrade soon since the prices here are similar to sola station, while the finishes are not. All things considered, I would recommend the neighborhood to a friend.

Our daughter has lived at Canalside Lofts in Columbia for the past year. She moved to the area from out-of-state for grad school, and we found the complex online. From the day we talked to the office staff, through arrival and move-in and through the entire lease, we have been impressed with the property, the people, the upkeep and the general sense of a quiet, safe and friendly residential community of professionals and some students. We highly recommend Canalside Lofts in Columbia!
Perfect location, downtown living with a neighborhood feel.

1) Missed a payment by several days and found a note on my door stating eviction proceedings would begin and that I owe a $125 late charge. Didn't even receive a reminder or a note- they went straight to eviction warnings. I spoke with staff twice to remove the fee and they would not.
2) There are ~$50 of "hidden" fees, one of them is for cockroach spraying which does not work, as your apartment will be crawling with cockroaches for most of the year.
3) You can't get packages sent to your door because they will be stolen. I had to get everything sent to my work.
4) The walls are very thin and even if your neighbors are not being loud, you still hear them all night.
5) Be extremely careful with the contract. There are MANY terms in the small writing that will cause you difficulties down the road. For instance, even if your term is 9 months, they still require 60 days notice before you can leave. I gave them 30 days notice thinking this was enough, now I have to pay a drastically higher month-to-month rate for the apartment for an entire month that I won't even be living here. Not even in this case were they willing to cooperate.
6) Once you sign the contract, the management is extremely rude and refuses to work with you. There are better, and much cheaper, options in Columbia.

Missed my first payment in 6 months by several days and found a note on my door stating eviction proceedings would begin and that I owe a $125 late charge. Didn't even receive a reminder or a note and they went straight to eviction warnings. I spoke with staff twice to remove the fee since I was a good tenant, and they would not. Beware the friendly pose- once you sign, the service disappears.
Plus the cockroaches are REALLY bad.
There are better (and cheaper) options in Columbia.
I've lived here twice - I'd rather live Canalside than Lake Carolina. friendly sexy people everywhere, clean, chill.

There are other apartment choices downtown after recent construction. Poor customer service from front desk and management. My unit is located on first floor and despite sending many complaints to management concerning noise way past midnight from tenants in unit above, nothing was done. No sleep during the running of the bulls is how my gf describes the place.

Staff is extremely friendly and will go out of their way to accommodate residents. The apartments and property is well-maintained with fantastic amenities. It's true you pay for quality, and it's true there is no higher-quality apartment community in Columbia, especially as a young professional. The community is highly friendly and involved, and their canalside cares team does an amazing job bringing people together for fun events, parties, or even just little things like free coffee and donuts delivered to your car as you head out the main entryway! Stop looking and move in already.

I have been living at the Canalside Lofts for the last 4 months now and couldn't be happier. The complex is tucked away right along the River Walk which is wonderful to get out on a beautiful day for a walk or run. It is also located less than 5 minutes from the Vista (bars, restaurants, and entertainment) and 5 minutes from the University of South Carolina campus.
The residence is safe, clean, and well kept. The staff has been more than accommodating on every single issue I have had from a broken blind to helping brainstorm ideas to lower electric costs. I wouldn't live anywhere else in Columbia and with the upcoming expansion (more apartments, restaurants, shops), Canalside will be the premier living accomodations in Columbia.

Don't waste your time or money! This place looks nice and is convenient to downtown Columbia, but if I had it to do all over again I would NOT sign a lease here. Expect to pay at least $50 more per month than what they quote you in hidden fees. Valet trash is a nice concept but everyone throws their trash into your can and the valets will not take it if it isn't properly bagged, so trash sits literally right next to your door 24/7. Because of the trash, ROACHES are also a huge problem as they lay dead in the hallways from where people have killed them and I've had to have them spray my apartment twice. I'm moving as soon as my lease ends!!

A year ago I needed to find a place to stay REALLY fast. The front office pulled all strings they could and stayed past office hours to get me approved and into a unit within a few days. All year I had no issues and when I needed maintenance they were there within a couple hours.
The walls may be a little thin, but the community is safe, clean and an awesome option for families or if you are living alone. The amenities are great and people obviously took their time to make CanalSide a warming community with fun events!! The location is IDEAL too.
Great year thanks yall!

CanalSide has been the best apartment community that I have lived in. I appreciate the genuine friendliness of staff and their willingness to help in whatever way they can. I have lived here for over 5 years and I couldn't be happier that this has been home. Any maintenance issue that I've had has been resolved immediately, and any questions or concerns I've brought to the office staff have been resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. The location is incredibly convenient, and the interior and exterior of the apartments are significantly nicer than any others I considered in Columbia. Thanks for making this a great place to live!!!
Great place to live!
