At QU, campus crime is rare. On average, 1 sex offense occurs annually, around 10 burglaries, and less than five times a year, an alcohol-related arrest. Like most cities, the most crime-ridden part of Charlotte is its central area, and the safest neighborhoods are along its perimeter. Queens University is in one of the safest areas of Charlotte in the central area. Crime is not a big concern in Charlotte, though racism is still prevalent to some. The murder rate in Charlotte is at a 24-year low, as of January 2013. Like any city, there are bad areas, but in general, Charlotte is not an unsafe place to be. Many sports teams, including the Carolina Panthers, call Charlotte, North Carolina home. Sporting events are very popular here. Through the year, many events occur, like the Carolina Gator Gumbo, the Queen City Brewers Festival and the Food Lion Speed Street, featuring live music and activities celebrating motor sports, with appearances by NASCAR drivers and show cars on display. On July 4th at Memorial Stadium, a giant fireworks display begins at 9:30pm following family-friendly events and music. In August, the Matthews Alice! festival, about 10 miles from Charlotte, has nearly 200,000 guests show up to listen all kinds of live music, engage in arts and crafts, and donate to a good cause. First Night is the annual New Year’s Eve celebration full of art, culture, magicians, and more.

Rent growth in Charlotte over the past year has been on the rise. When compared to major cities nearby, along with some of the most expensive cities in the country, Charlotte average rent prices appear to be relatively affordable for local residents.

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
