Glen Lennox was billed as this great, almost too-perfect place, but has ended up being anything but. So many things have gone wrong with the apartment and I haven't even lived here for two full months. First of all, my roommate and I were promised a really nice end unit and we were verbally assured that it was the unit we would be renting by Stephanie Landman, which included showing us the outside of the apartment while stating repeatedly that it was the unit we would receive. However, come move-in day we learned that she had told us the wrong apartment! The street name she gave us was for a middle unit with a far less attractive outside and interior, but because she had "mistaken" the streets, there was nothing to be done unless we were willing to wait a week for a different end unit. My roommate and I, as well as members of both of our families, are fully convinced that this "error" was completely intentional, especially after the other unpleasant surprises we've received. Nearly every door in the apartment is completely messed up in some form or fashion -- two of them have large gaps cut out from the top and/or bottom, the bathroom door would not close until maintenance came out and fixed it (although it still sticks pretty obnoxiously), the front door has notches large enough for insects to get in, etc. Laundry facilities are provided for renters without in-unit hookups, but what isn't mentioned is how pathetic they are. There are only six washers and eight dryers in the tiny (outdoor) facility, which is basically a shack. We were told that each load of laundry was $1.50, but it's actually $1.89 per load. Not sure how that "mistake" was made, but okay. Additionally, we have been overcharged a variety of times, each of which has been nearly impossible to resolve. I would absolutely not recommend this apartment complex, and I would strongly advise against prospective renters moving here. Our experiences with staff tend to be frustrating and never seem to resolve anything in the long term, the apartment itself is lower quality than we were led to believe it would be, and the rent is far higher than this cesspool is actually worth. -4/10 stars.

I am completely disappointed in Grubb Properties for their handling of my lease terms. These folks play DIRTY!! I lived in Glen Lennox for 2 years and never had any problems outside of the normal tenant issues with roaches, etc. It was only upon my preparation to move that I started reading through my lease to see what I needed to do before I moved out. I noticed that there is a 60 day written notice that tenants must give before they move out. I had received a few letters from the leasing company asking if I wanted to stay and extend my lease. Never once did they bother to remind me that I would need to submit a 60 day notice before I move out. By the time I read this when going through my lease I was already within the 60 days so I ended up having to pay for an additional 11 days rent. So I paid the additional $400 that they schemed out of me. This was back at the beginning of June. I just got an email (it's almost the end of August) telling me that I owe an additional $120. Why, you ask?? My rent was $1000 a month, but since I went "month to month" according to them, from June 1-11, I was actually subject to pay their "month to month" rent, which is $1300. David in their office is the one who quoted the pro-rated amount that I owed originally. I guess he forgot that they do dirty business and that I would be paying a pro-rated amount based on a higher rent amount. I am completely disappointed. I feel very much taken advantage of and can't imagine how many other people they have done this to. It's a truly disgusting way to get more money out of people. So renters be ware - you must give 60 DAYS WRITTEN NOTICE before you move out, regardless of what your lease dates are!!! And Glen Lennox will NEVER remind you of that at any point.

I enjoyed living at GL, but please note that water billing is about 6 months behind. The apartments are very small, but they have lovely wood floors and are very well built. You won't hear your neighbors. You feel like you have a yard. The maintenence crew is great. I've never seen anything like the water billing though. I'm still receiving water bills from living there, and since is so incredibly delayed, you have to stay on top of it since it's well beyond the mail forwarding period.

I grew up in Glen Lennox in the early 80's and have the fondest memories of the other kids, the big old trees and the warmth of our little apartment. I am glad the old wood floors are still there and some of the original kitchens have been kept clean and serviceable. There is good energy in those kitchens...a lot of great people got their start with meals cooked in those kitchens! I have gone on to do big worldly things, as did many of the other kids, but my heart is still running and playing on those sidewalks. Hearing my father call me for dinner, bursting through that screen door to be the first kid out in the morning and remembering the diversity that the neighborhood had. No one was trying to keep up with the Joneses - we were just focused on what really mattered. And we went far. I think it was something in the water and a magic about the place. Now, I drive through at least once a year and admire how charming the community still is in a world where big trees have been cleared for cheap construction and cookie cutter landscaping. It has good energy and an enduring simple beauty. If I was moving back to Chapel Hill, I would absolutely return to Glen Lennox.

I was a resident of Glen Lennox/Grubb Properties for 1 year(129 Maxwell Road). I use the auto-pay account to pay the rent. November is my last month to rent in Glen Lennox, I canceled the auto-pay function. But on the auto-pay account also listed the Base Rent-Residential, so I wait the auto deduct just like one month ago, and I make sure with the staff. But at last the auto-pay account didn't deduct and I get a later fee penalty. I think there is problem in the company system. Though I had paid the later fee but I think this is not my responsibility to pay the penalty!

This is a fair score comparing the environment in outside the apt and the price. staff are good in general. they support your requirement and calls, in time, mostly. However, some (not all) apt are too old (but still can live in) that may lead to a concern of main frame issue (cracks interior/exterior). Bug is absolutely not a problem if you are clean and you put bait in corners. Safety and friendly place. Not very convenient but still can walk to a grocery store. Good for those with kids, for good elementary school purpose. Bad for those who are believed to be or to be served like upper class. Bad for those who have demands on interior setting and appliances. Bad for those who are single or work everyday in lab. Good for a family with school aged kids, good for those nature lovers, and runners. If the rent is lower, I can give 4 stars. Some apt has no washer/dryer/dishwasher, but I can accept it.

Oh God...where do I begin? Well when I first moved into this apartment complex it was great! I loved the location, the layout of the apartment, my neighbors, everything! But then sh** hit the fan. I moved into a newer, better apartment (in Glen Lennox). When I moved I asked for a copy of my lease to have on file - they NEVER sent it. Well just last week I go outside to get in my car and I have a PARKING TICKET for $30. (I have two cars). I took the ticket and called the Glen Lennox office, no one answered of course. I walk over to the office and they were on lunch - nobody was in the office. I waited for 30 minutes but nobody came back. So the next morning I go back outside and have TWO MORE parking tickets!!!!!!!!!!!! I go up to the office and there were two people in the office, I explained the situation - they NEVER TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A PARKING PASS TO PARK IN GLEN LENNOX. Then the lady tells me that I have to have a copy of my lease to PURCHASE a parking pass...WHAT???? I HAVE TO PURCHASE A FREAKING PARKING PASS????? What gets me most is that my dishwasher repeatedly breaks, my AC unit is constantly freezing, my breaker keeps flipping so my electricity is constantly going in and out and when I call to have a repair guy come out THEY DON'T SHOW UP!!! So I am paying $950 p/m ++++ a freaking electric bill of $200 (because my A/C SUCKS) AND now I have to pay for a freaking $25 parking pass for both of my cars AND $90 in parking tickets. And now I have to wait a week for a copy of my lease because GLEN LENNOX DOES NOT HAVE THEIR SHI* TOGETHER. DO NOT RENT WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. I HATE GLEN LENNOX AHHHHHH

I like this community: people here are very nice and the rental office are very supportive. It is close to campus and on sunny days you can even jog there for about 20 minutes. The bug problem is true, but once you find it you just call the office and they will have someone to come and exterminate them. Also I bought some spray and bait from Amazon to solve the problem. I used it just once and all the bug disappeared. The only thing I want to mention is the rent because it changes very quickly and you do not know why. Guess it is the system work. Anyway, nothing will be perfect and what we need to do is to be grateful for what we have right now.

Do not be fooled by the location of these complexes in respect to the UNC campus. Yes, it is close to the UNC campus, but completely not worth it to live here. This place is a sucker for upperclassmen and first year graduate students who think "Wow! How convenient to live here! It is so close to class, and there are two buses to take me to school!" Let's be clear, don't live here if you are a single student. Bad idea. I lived here with my wife for a year. Reviews said cochroaches were a problem, and I thought well those all can't be true. Nope, they are. They like to sit right outside your porch on the back wall so every time you walk outside at night you get creeped out. Oh and they are just one of a few different kind of bugs that like to live in your home too. We had our house bombed 3 times. Didn't stop them, and they continued to show up. Not good with having to worry about our newborn infant picking one up and eating it. Or the fact that one night one crawled on me while I was sleeping in my bed. Also, these guys have difficulty filling all of their homes. Therefore, they will try to get as much money as they can out of you. One way is the hope that you forget that it is a two month advance notice to vacate versus a typical one month notice. To put insult to injury they charge you the increased monthly rate for the extra month or however many days (For us it was half a month). Further, don't be surprised when you still receive utility bills from them months after you leave. They like to see if they can get you to pay a bill or two. Lastly, just when you think you are finally through with these guys and multiple calls to clear up utility bills that aren't yours, a year later you get a call from a credit agency saying you still owe $100. (Seriously?!? Are you kidding me? You couldn't tell me this when I called you all the previous times?) Overall, if you are a graduate student you can find a better place to live around campus up near MLK Blvd, UNC Hospitals, past James Taylor Bridge, or my gosh live near South Point/Durham where you can get twice the space for the same price.

I'm apartment shopping again now and realizing that honest reviews are crucial in making decisions, so I thought I should write one about Glen Lennox. I've lived here for the past 6 months in a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartments are cute and very conveniently located. We're just minutes from UNC, have easy access to both 54 and 15-501 and only a short drive to I-40. Everything you could ever need is close, grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc. The apartments still have the original hardwood flooring. I feel very safe in the neighborhood, although at night it would be nice if there were a few more lights on the streets. My biggest complaint is the bathroom. Even though we live in a renovated apartment, the water takes a good five to ten minutes to get warm, and then will still jump back and forth between scalding hot and freezing cold, even if you don't touch the faucets. We also had a number of toilet issues when we first moved in. Maintenance responded promptly and resolved the issues, although sometimes the toilet still seems like it runs too long after being flushed. Both of these issues contribute to a higher than normal water bill, and because the water bill is managed through an outside company, there's also an additional admin fee for water every month. The only other negative thing I have to mention is that there are periods when we see several very large roaches in our apartment. We usually spray around the doors and that takes care of it for a while. Utilities seem to be a bit high for the square footage. We pay gas, electric, water and internet/cable, and in the winter months in our small apartment, all the utilities are well over $200. The gas bill alone in the winter has been upwards of $80. Overall, I've enjoyed living here for the past few months, it just would have been nice to have been aware of these issues while making a decision about whether or not to move in.
