Coming from someone that has lived here for over 2 years, the pros definitely don't outweigh the cons. Don't buy into their trap! The place looks nice at first but it's not worth the money they basically steal from you all the time. You can find a much better place for a lower cost.
Pros: The place is super convenient, especially for nursing students. It's right off campus and fully furnished, which makes it easy to get around to classes. They give out a LOT of free food and opportunities to win gift cards and they put on some pretty fun events! Staff is super kind, especially maintenance. Also, they're pet friendly and don't have breed restrictions! They love my pit bull so much here.
Cons: Don't even get me started. When I was touring the place, they didn't show me a one bedroom, which is what I wanted to get. They neglected to tell me that 1) the "bedroom door" is actually an accordion door and it should be considered a studio, 2) the "oven" is literally your microwave functioning also as a full range oven, but it's the WORST because you can't microwave something and cook something at the same time. Baking in my kitchen (or really kitchenette) is pointless if I forget to microwave an ingredient before preheating the oven. It takes forever to preheat and you have to wait 10 minutes for it to cool down before you can use the microwave again. The whole place is a rip off for what I pay. The owners of the property are cheap as heck even though staff tries so hard to make up for it. When I moved in, I was technically "subletting" someone else's apartment, but it's not actually subletting because it's all done through the office and people are only allowed to sublet for the summer when they're not in school and living in Valpo. I walked into my apartment and found hair and dust EVERYWHERE, and even found socks/plastic baggies stuffed into the couch. Now that I'm about to move out, however, they expect me to hire a professional carpet cleaner AT COST TO ME and clean the whole place spotless or they'll take part of my security deposit, even after taking a second non-refundable security deposit once the place became pet friendly and I got my dog. Let me repeat: THE OWNERS ARE SO CHEAP. The best part about this place was the manager, but they made a massive mistake by firing him over something they didn't even bother looking into properly. Oh, and wifi gets so crappy for no reason half the time.
Lastly: PARKING!!!!!!!! If you want an overnight guest, half the time you're SOL. Every spot on the whole street is designated for people who pay, and if the office isn't open when you want an overnight pass (AKA a silly printed piece of paper to put on your dash), they WILL TOW. I've seen the tow truck out almost daily if not weekly since I've moved in. They've towed my boyfriend's car after telling him that no one will be towing with the snow and I'm constantly hearing that they don't know what they're doing with parking passes. If you decide to live here and get a pass, get a numbered one. Then you're at least guaranteed a spot for your car.
Overall, the free food and close vicinity to VU is not remotely worth living here. Go find a nice apartment complex that isn't trying to rip you off. I'm out of here in 5 days and I CANNOT WAIT TO LEAVE THIS PLACE.
