The rental market in Utica requires a lot of attention. There aren’t as many apartments here as you’ll find in nearby cities like Syracuse, Rochester, or Albany, so if you find a rental you like you should snatch it quickly. Many of the apartment complexes are situated near the college, so I’d say the ideal situation is if you find a place you can walk to campus and back from. If you’re interesting in looking outside of Utica, there aren’t many options within 15 miles other than Rome. I’d say your best bet is staying in town, and don’t be discouraged if you don’t immediately find a place. Utica is near the outer edges of the Adirondack Mountains, considered to be one of the natural areas in the Northeast with the most recreational activities and beauty. What more could a student ask for than to be a short drive from some of the best hiking, photography, climbing, and mountain biking in the country? Alas, I suppose my interest great outdoors isn’t shared by everyone. Students who are more into a bar or party scene will find Utica to be a great college town, and will be glad to hear that Syracuse and Rochester, two more well-known and large college areas, are within driving distance.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change.
