These apartments are beautiful and I highly recommend them. I was deciding between 3-4 stars due to the fact that they're right next to power lines (expanded on below).
I will lay out pros and cons:
PROS:
**As a whole I valued the pros of the apartment way more than the cons. Even though it seems as though there are less pros than cons, I really do highly recommend this apartment complex, but just wanted to make people aware of the cons that I saw.
- Beautifully designed apartments. They had tall ceilings, white trim, white cabinets that were great quality, AMAZING bathrooms that were HUGE with giant tubs that were AMAZING!! The bedrooms had GIANT walk-in closets attached to them, which was awesome too. I thought this apartment had lots of great storage space as well.
- The office staff was really nice and did respond to my maintenance requests.
- LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION - these apartments were within 5 minutes of 3 different grocery stores, 3 different convenience stores, the giant St. Louis Galleria, and 7 minutes from downtown Clayton! Super close to Washington University as well.
- I moved out of state and I have been searching for an apartment I like within the price range for several months and it's been so difficult to find one even in the same galaxy aesthetically, or one with as great of a layout or amenities. You don't realize how great a nice big tub or 10' ceilings are or a giant walk in closet until you don't have them!
CONS:
- THe BIGGEST con for me (which is a big one) is these apartments are RIGHT next to a large power line and substation. Like 10 feet away. There are many studies that show high correlations between living near power lines and developing cancer, especially in children or the elderly. Unfortunately, my apartment was one that was only a couple of apartments away. I still gave this complex 4 stars because I think you could find an apartment far enough away from the power lines (on the opposite side of the complex) and it would be worth it. However, I do not think I would stay here in the long term for this reason and this reason ONLY.
- A lot of reviews I saw complained about the narrow parking garage, but a few responses here: 1) If you know anything about St. Louis/Clayton/Brentwood living, the only options for parking are a) super super cramped street parking or b) no parking at all. It's very rare to find a parking garage, even if the garage is, yes, very narrow. If you have a pickup truck, this may not be the place for you. But if you do have one, that leads to my second response- 2) Live on the top floor!! The reason the bottom and second floor parking spaces seem more cramped is due to the posts that have to hold up the higher floors. However, the top floor does not have that. As a result, a lot of the bigger trucks parked up there because they could take up a couple of spaces.
- My apartment had an issue with ants ONLY near the balcony door (NEVER anywhere else). The apartment tried to be very responsive and sprayed outside and inside near my door; they also replaced the weather strip on the balcony door because it looked old and it looked as though that's how the ants were getting in, but that didn't fix the issue. However, I asked my next door neighbor if she had any ant troubles and she did not. So I think it was something to do with my apartment in particular. It was weird since I was on the third floor.
- They ONLY take checks for rent payments - no cash or credit card, which is kind of inconvenient, but not a deal breaker. They have a convenient rent drop and I never had an issue paying rent.
- Moving in and out will be horrible for movers. Moving trucks cannot access the interior of the garage, so just be mindful and tip them extra well or plan extra time for moving in.
- The turn to get into the complex is rather dangerous and wouldn't be advised if you have younger kids learning how to drive (or if you suck at driving).
