Far West Side Neighborhood Summary

The Far West side is a rapidly growing area that begins just outside of the 410 Loop and extends past 1604, outside of the current city limits of San Antonio. It’s a favorite of military families, attracted by the proximity to Lackland Air Force Base, but people of all backgrounds are flocking to the area’s subdivisions and apartment complexes, which are reasonably priced for middle-class families. Development has exploded in the past 10 years, and the area is currently serviced by dozens of new grocery stores, restaurants, and big-box stores. It also plays host to a number of major employers, like QVC, Citicorp, Wells Fargo, and Coventry Health Care.

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
