Welcome to the highlands, a place that will charge you for damages present in your unit from your move in three years prior. A wonderful place where amenities like basketball courts are never unlocked, and the volleyball court removed of it net. But even with constantly decreasing quality in service your rent is assured to go up another 100 each year. Living here started decent, but poor management and helpless staff ruin any chance of this place being worth living in. There are tons of better choices.

PSA PARENTS: DO NOT LET YOUR STUDENT LIVE HERE.
1) They make you move in 8/20 and lease ends 7/31, but they make you pay a full 12 months rent. They DO NOT PRORATE AUGUST RENT, WHICH IS AWEFUL AND ILLEGAL. I don't know what the loophole is in the lease, but please read it very carefully.
2) When we moved in, the place was VERY DIRTY. My roommate and I had to deep clean the carpets, floors, windows, counters, etc.
3) The dishwasher was broken when we moved in and our dining room table chairs have holes in the upholstery.
4) Maintenance does not warn you when they come into your apartment. The night before they start maintenance duties (replacing filters, inspections, etc) they send out an email that says "maintenance will be in your apartment sometime during this two week period" which is bull. One time a maintenance guy just walked into my apartment at 7 AM and barged into my room and woke me up. I work very late nights, so this was annoying.
5) They start renewing leases in October, only 2 months after move in. Every week after they start renewals, rent goes up. So if you don't renew in October, then you will be paying WAY more than your previous lease or you will be forced to move because they already sold your unit to someone else.
6) I live in a 2 bedroom and was shown a model for a 3 bedroom when I signed a lease. I was told that the 2 bedroom had the same kitchen as the 3. This is not true. The 3 bed kitchen is HUGE and you have hella counter space. In the 2 bedroom, my roommate and I cannot cook together because there is not enough room and we used all of our counter space for our microwave, toaster, and coffee machine. The model also has a REAL mattress on the bed and I was told I would be provided a mattress of similar quality, but the mattresses provided are plastic, hard, and thin. I had to spend 200+ on a mattress pad to remedy that. I wouldn't be upset about this stuff if I wasn't lied to when I signed a lease.
7) Not worth 700 dollars a month PER PERSON. Stay in the dorms or find yourself a REAL apartment or home. This place knows college students have expendable money from financial aide and parents, so they screw you every way possible.

This is a decent place to live, one of the cheapest in the area. Not the best but not the worst. CA are very friendly as well as the maintenance staff. The amenities included are nice but some of the furniture feels old or dated and very mismatched. Maintenance is pretty quick to fix things. The gate is usually always broken in some way so thats kind of a bummer, and the security can be very rude to residents and I have witnessed them swearing at people if breaking up parties.

Very nice complex with lots of amenities that are included on site which are extremely convenient. Parking is free which is also a huge plus.
I have lived here since August and havent had any issues. I am renewed for next year. Overall, has been a great experience for me!

The apartment itself is fine, everything works and if it doesn't then it can be fixed promptly. However, I would sooner pursue homelessness than subject myself to this management again. If you could even call it management. You aren't even allowed to talk to management. Instead you get to talk to a staff which is seldom on the same page with anything at all. If you think that you'll only see the staff at check in and check out, then this place is for you. If you think there is even a CHANCE that you will need a staff that works with you on something, look elsewhere.

This is a late review seeing as I've left this horrid place in July. If you're looking into this complex, I suggest you avoid it. The prices are not worth the lack of quality. Staff will randomly come into your apartment. And they also inspect the apartments constantly. I've come from a rough neighborhood, and I've always been present for any inspects just to be sure that my stuff is safe, however, the staff here has no regards to that. Myself as well as my roommates didn't feel comfortable allowing the staff to inspect without someone present. Constant parties with lots of drug, I guess if you're into that-- then that's a plus for you. But for those who are introverted, this is not the place for you. The gate never works, so it's almost pointless to have a keycard. The staff can be really rude or really nice, it's a hit or miss. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE.

I have only had a problem moving in other than that I could not have gotten better! I had preferences for where I would like to live i.e. top floor, with a view, I ended up getting just that. Maintenance will deal with any problems in the apartments from new batteries to light bulbs. Entering my second year living here and was given a discount to come back for another unlike other student housing complexes. There are many events for students to get food and get money . Also just a note I recommend moving in with at least one person you know or get along with I had a 3 x 3. Just because if you get tired or don't want to talk to one roommate hopefully you have another.

So I lived here for two years and honestly I wished I had stayed in the dorms instead because at least they didn't try to screw you over every second they got. If it wasn't they're website crashing making it impossible to pay rent if you don't have a check handy (which if you're relying on your parents to help with the 800 rent since no part time job can pay that - at least not to my knowledge - getting your hands on a check is basically impossible) then they're busy losing the packages you get shipped. What made living here awful is their website crashing so I can't pay rent, and then I'm told I'm just SOL and will have to pay the late fee because THEIR website crashing isn't their fault apparently, huh interesting. And then having to deal with them losing every other package of mine because it got sent to either Sterling or the Summit was unbelievable BECAUSE when I would call the post office about it they would say it's been delivered to my apartments front office and yet they "don't" have it and on top of that won't go into the back to even look for it because their computer system says they "don't" have it, you can see the frustration in that right, now imagine having to deal with that every other time you want a package. And lastly let's just talk about how some of the apartments are nearly 1000 for a ROOM. Like that's almost 2000 for an apartment between you and your roommate. Guys, that's more than a house morgage, just rent a house with some friends instead man like honestly don't scammed into this place. Heck if you're willing to pay 1000 for rent just straight up buy a house then, at least you'll have an investment and start building good credit. You could turn a 10,000 dollar profit in just 2 years buying and selling. You know what I got for 2 years living here, a lot of frustration and kids younger than me telling me to F off for any problems I had with their crappy apartments. The apartments are crappy, the beds are crappy, the furniture is basically falling apart, and you're paying between 700-1000 (depending on which room setup you get) for that. I mean if that's what you like to get for a high rent then The Highlands is just for you!

Not displaying a charge until after late fees are due. These people deserve to go out of business, but with the housing so close to the university that'll never happen. Only reason to live here is if you can't find another place.

By the way, if you're looking to stay here, make sure you can stay the full 12 months because subleasing is a rare occurrence. The Highlands also needs to update and manage their buildings more often. Our entire building (in the short 6 months I lived there) was shifting. The seal in the kitchen was coming off of the wall and the stairwell was chipping more and more everyday. Overall, I would never recommend anybody to live there.
