I was supposed to live here 3 months ago, starting in June 2014, for a short term work project. I was handed the keys to my apartment and given direction on how to find it. Unfortunately, the apartment was infested with roaches and had a strong marijuana smell, so I immediately went back to the management office to bring this to their attention. I had to wait over 45 minutes for someone to return to the office. This was on a Monday at 11 AM, when I would think they would have the office adequately staffed. The person that finally showed up to the office said she didn't know what to do as she was new and would have to speak to the property manager, Megan. The apartment was not safe to stay in, so I had to find a hotel. I confirmed my contact information with the girl so Megan could contact me to resolve the issue. The next day, I called The Exchange as it was 2 PM and I still had not heard anything from them. I called all of the numbers I could find for them and no one would answer. I stopped in after work to resolve the issue and was told that I would have to talk to Megan (again). So, where was this Megan? When I asked what I was supposed to do for an apartment in the mean time, the girl said she doesn't know and Megan would answer that question.
Megan finally contacted me on the following Friday, five days after my initial move in date, and offered me other apartments that were $300 and more over the price of the apartment I was supposed to have and none of them would not be ready for another week and a half. I knew my company would not approve of this, so I said its a no go and I handed my keys back to her. I pointed out to Megan that, according to the 3 month contract, I had 30 days to let them know if the apartment wasn't working and was doing that right now. Megan ignored this and kept talking like I had not said this, saying to me that I'm no longer in the big city and I need to be realistic about the timeframe to find me another (safe and livable) apartment. I pointed out the part of the contract that had the 30 day clause, and she said she had no choice than to not hold me liable for the lease.
Fast forward to this week- three months later and when the lease that was voided would have been done- I was notified by the company that I work for that The Exchange at Brier Creek was charging me over $500 for damages to the apartment that I never lived in. After looking into it further, we also found out that they continued to bill my company for all three months rent.
The mobility people at the company I work for have been trying to contact them about this to resolve, but have been having trouble getting someone to answer the phone. It has been turned over to the corporate attorneys. We have been told that Megan the property manager would be in contact with us and are still waiting for anyone to contact us after three days of trying to reach them through phone numbers and emails.
Something is definitely shady about this place. I would not recommend anyone doing business with them. To keep charging rent and also over $500 in damages for a place I spent less than a minute in and reported the unsafe and unlivable conditions immediately, also turning in my keys is stealing and wrong.
Do not even visit this place. It's not worth the nightmare and waste of time.
