Find a Platteville Apartment

Platteville is a small city that has been growing incredibly quickly over the past decade. In 2010, its population was just over 11,000. It was originally just a small farming village, but the founding of mines in the area caused almost all the communities in this part of Wisconsin to grow exponentially in the 1820s. The town is home to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville enrolls around 8,700 students. The school offers degrees in a wide variety of disciplines, but is best down for its business and engineering programs. The logo of the school is a large "M". In Platteville, there is the largest man-made "M" in the world, which sits on Platte Mound. Twice a year, various groups within the University hold large events where the "M" is lit using kerosene lamps. Much of the town always comes out to see the lit up "M" which is a point of local pride.

When to Search

Platteville is another one of the many college towns that dot the countryside in America that has a very clear rental cycle. Because the University is the major draw both economically and academically, most of the renters come and leave town based on the University year. This means that looking in April and May when the last crop of students is leaving is ideal.

Staying in the Know

When you're meeting with a Platteville landlord, don't be afraid to tell them if you're a student. In larger cities, students are often looked upon as problematic renters. However, in a college town like Platteville, students make up the lions share of the renters, so most landlords are more than happy to work with them.
