Don't live here. Find a nicer, cheaper apartment down the block or something.
I was a tenant here for a year (2016-2017) while I finished my master's degree. During that time, I constantly recommended this place to anyone who was looking for an apartment. The rent was pretty high, but it was a clean looking building and the rooms had everything that I needed to feel comfortable (washer, dryer, dishwasher, bath, toilet, etc). The fire alarm went off at least once a week, and the Internet was down for hours/days once a month, but it was peaceful.
The drama began when it came time to move out. I had moved in with my security deposit waived due to a limited special that they ran during the summer months back in 2016. What they failed to mention was that if you didn't have a security deposit and didn't pay a "cleaning fee" when you moved, then you'll be receive a notice from a collection company that you owe them several hundred dollars due within a month's time.
This is bad by itself, but as I had a guarantor, they also received the same notice. This means that both me and my guarantor received negative hits to our credit rating, all because the Court apartment didn't inform us that we owed a cleaning fee. They could have sent me an email, called my phone or even sent me a letter; they did none of those things. They simply escalated the situation to a collection agency without having the decency to inform me that I owed them money. As I always paid my bills before they were due, I would hardly be considered a flight risk from paying a bill that I owed.
The strange thing is that I left my apartment in as good of condition as I left it; I never had guests, never ate messy food nor did I do anything that could have caused a mess. I made certain that I hand scrubbed everything before I left, making certain that the apartment was in tip-top shape for the next tenant.
Still, they charged me a huge fee to clean a already cleaned room and then didn't tell me about it. I found out that I owed this money from the collection agency, which means that the case had already been escalated to a point of no return. I tried to appeal my case, but they decided that the case was "valid" and as such I had to pay the collection company. By this point, I had two days to pay off the debt or face even further escalation.
Now, I won't go into the logistics of how a single studio apartment that was already cleaned (they showed me the pictures of when I moved out prior to their cleaning services, and it was still a clean room) somehow turned into a $365 cleaning job, I just can't figure out how it could possibly costed me that much to get a single studio apartment cleaned.
While I was there, I kept being asked to write a review of the apartments if I thought that they were good. My initial thoughts of this place have turned sour due to the back and forth with them, and now I'm glad I decided to wait until I had lived there for a year to really see how they treated their tenants before writing this review. Apparently, other tenants were treated the same way and have made their opinions heard. As you can see from the other reviews, they also had serious issues with the apartments. Take their warnings very seriously.
I will end by saying that they may have screwed me and the other tenants out of both our money and credit ratings, but they don't have to screw you out of yours. Just find somewhere else to live. It'll definitely be cheaper.
