Powelton Village Neighborhood Summary

To be near the campus without feeling like you’re living on it, Powelton Village has just what you need. Just north of University City — and with it, the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University — Powelton Village is vibrant, youthful, and one of Philadelphia’s most politically active neighborhoods. It holds one of few thoroughfares to still fully utilize a streetcar system, plus Powelton is accessible by SEPTA if you’re hoping to travel to another part of Philly. Colorful storefronts hold shops and art and dance studios, interspersed with the twin Victorian homes that characterize the area. While apartment searching in Powelton Village, which has some of Philadelphia’s lowest rents, you’re bound to come across many apartments inside these updated Victorian homes with tall bay windows.
