Rent flat fee, plus your water, trash and misc fees. Then the electric bill, which is HORRIBLE all year long. Windows are probably still the originals from the '40s, incredibly drafty in there in the winter. Dishwashers push the water up through the kitchen sink. There's bugs, no matter how well you clean, ancient HVAC that backs up and leaks. Maintenance is a joke, atleast 3x they put the air filter in backwards. Some staff is great, others are horrible, like Sonya. She'll come through on "inspections" and actually open up and go through closets. We always made sure we were home for that.
AC/HVAC fills up with water, mold grows in the hallway closets. I lived there about 3 years and HATED it. Once I had my son, with the lead based paint in there, disgusting carpeting, half properly laid flooring and black mold, they were FINALLY installing carbon minoxide testers... After numerous tenants had drastic declines in health. I was one of them as was the woman across the hall. No thanks!
I've got a 2 bedroom house and a washer and dryer and my bills are less than they were there. Plus those awful HUD inspections, 2x a year but they do a check prior to each of those. I paid my rent, I wasn't on vouchers like most of the people there. It's definitely slumming, that's for sure! Plenty of druggie and people who want to be in the corridors partying until all hours of the morning, not caring about those who actually go to work. Save yourself the aggravation and find a nicer place to rent! I was actually getting sick from living there, that should tell you enough in itself. Oh, and brace yourself, if there's damage done to your vehicle from other residents inability to park, they'll say they're not responsible.
Water spots in bedroom on ceiling from apartment above flooding, cracked glass in bathroom and livingroom, unless it breaks out, they won't repair it. Livingroom windows leak because everything is SHODDY.
I had to request a handicap parking spot, initially I was told no, as per Sonya. Eventually it was hammered into the grass, then they actually paved and painted some in, but everyone parks where they want. It's such a joke. The laundry room is kept trashy, people try to break into the machines for change etc.
Honestly, unless you've no other option, keep searching! There's WAY nicer, HEALTHIER and affordable places out there!! Oh, and EVERY lease renewal, rent goes up FYI. And once you give proper notice you're leaving, just wait until that bill comes in, all kinds of misc charges and they'll even try to say "insufficient notice given" even though my 60 day notice (only required 30 then) was "magically" lost. Even though I had email proof confirming it.
