Murray is a small city of around 17,000 people in Calloway County. The town has had many names over the years, being called Williston, Pooltown, and Pleasant Springs before the present name of Murray was finally landed on in 1844. A lovely, small, southern city, Murray enjoys temperate weather, although it does get a clear four-season year.

Most people who visit Murray are surprised by the quality of the art Galleries and Museums found in this small town. It also has extremely well maintained parkland and public recreation facilities. Murray State University is a competitor in NCAA Division I sports, and the school is known for having an excellent basketball program that has produced several notable NBA players.

Where to play

Some of the festivals held in Murray attract visitors from far and wide, and aren't to be missed. Best among these is the Freedom Festival that runs near the end of June into the start of July. The Clara M. Eagle Gallery is the largest local gallery with a collection of over 1,200 pieces. Central Park is a wonderful place to visit for some fresh air, or to take advantage of public recreation facilities and swimming pools.
