Skagit Valley College

Students at Skagit Valley College place a high priority on safety, and are always asking which neighborhoods in Mt. Vernon have the lowest crime rates. The southern neighborhoods, like Conway, Lake McMurray, and Big Lake. However, the area surrounding SVC’s campus is more dangerous than average. In fact, Mt. Vernon has a crime rate that exceeds the US average. Burlington, which neighbors Mt. Vernon to the north, has an even worse crime rate (124 inhabitants out of 1000 experience crime annually). However, if you’re careful about where you live in both places you should be able to avoid the high crime. Students who have a car on campus with them at SVC are rewarded with a plethora of options for the weekend. The Canadian border is 50 miles away, and students at the school often make trips up north. Both the Skagit Bay and Padilla Bay are ten miles to the west, and the state of Washington’s best natural amenities like the Mt. Baker National Forest, the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and the North Cascades are a 1-2 hour drive to the east. Of course, if you want to stay local there are on campus opportunities too.

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change.
