Medford offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. And, it has a rich history, beginning in the 1600s when it was actually a part of Charlestown. Over the years, what with one thing and another, it set itself up as a separate entity, winning additional fields and woods in 1754 and leaving Charlestown to just under 1.4-square miles of turf.
Interesting facts: Medford was home to a couple of songwriters, including James Pierpont, the author of Jingle Bells, and Lydia Maria Child, who wrote Over the River and Through the Woods. And, Medford dished out the first cooking celebrity, Fannie Farmer.
