Find a Marquette Apartment

Marquette is a small city in the upper peninsula of Michigan. This is the large potion of Michigan that is north of Lake Huron and south of Lake Superior. Although its population of 21,000 is small by the rest of the country's standards, it is actually the largest town in this isolated part of the country. In addition to the peninsula itself, the city boundaries actually stretch out onto several islands in the area as well.

Northern Michigan University, the largest on the peninsula by a good margin, is found in Marquette. Around 9,000 students attend NMU annually. As the largest city in the area, Marquette is also home to a number of festivals and events throughout the year. These often draw in large crowds from many of the smaller communities in the peninsula.

When to Search

Winter isn't a great time to shop for apartments because the weather in Marquette at this time of year tends to make people want to not move. In order to have a good shot at finding a good apartment, you want to time your search for when a lot of people are moving out, and that seems unlikely during a Marquette winter. Time your search for summer instead.

Staying in the Know

Because Marquette is so small, landlords will want to know why you've chosen to move there. Many are open to renting to working people or students, but will want to know which of those categories you fall into before they rent to you. Applications will look much like they do across the rest of the country.

Where to play

Watching Northern Michigan University play football at the Superior Dome is great fun. Walks along the lake or adventures on the many surrounding islands can keep you occupied during the summer months. Presque Isle Park in particular is worth a visit. The downtown area is beautiful and very reminiscent of how downtown areas used to be designed: walker friendly, with lots of great spots to pop into as you take a leisurely stroll. The Verabar is the true nightclub in town, which of course makes it popular with the college crowd.
