I'm in the process of moving out after living here for 6 months, so here are the pros and cons I experienced.
Pros:
- In a picturesque, walkable location. The late-1800s architecture is preserved really well, Main St is right around the corner, and the Weaver building is the end of the Cheney Historical Rail Trail, so there's a lot to explore on foot
- All the staff are very friendly and communicative
- I rented a Midtown style apartment in the Weaver building. The big windows and exposed brick are very pretty.
- Very little road noise in spite of the fact you're right by the highway.
- Pet and kid friendly
- Lots of apartments, so lots of availability
- The grounds and hallways are well-maintained
- There's central air and you control your own thermostat
Neutrals:
- The people here are friendly, but management doesn't organize any events except to bring in new renters, so you have to go out of your way to get to know your neighbors
- There are many washers and dryers in the several laundry rooms throughout the building, and they're always clean and working, but they're expensive (5.00 per load if you're washing and drying as of May 2022)
- In the loft style apartments, at least, the upstairs ceiling is 6'6 with an I beam that comes as low as 5'4
Cons:
- The walls are thin. You'll hear TV's, pets, and conversations. You also typically won't tour the same unit you'll be renting, so you can't tell if your neighbors are quiet until you've already moved in. Walking through the hallways, you can also smell what people are cooking.
- For people who use mobility aids, the Weaver building is not accessible. There's only 1 external door that doesn't require climbing/descending steps to get to, and its lock breaks 3-4 times a month, rendering it unusable for several hours to one business day.
- As of May 2022, you have to use Cox for your internet, so you won't get the benefits of the fiber internet Frontier is installing in Manchester.
- The rent I ended up paying was $200 more expensive than the rent on their website for the same unit, plus since I didn't have a very long rental history, my security deposit was 2 x rent.
Overall, I've had a nice time living here. The biggest pet peeve of mine was the thin walls, but a good pair of noise cancelling headphones helped me deal with that. It's been pretty cool to live in such a historic building and area.
