Really a great leasing management. Timely on communication and very fast to respond to repair needs. Very clean and updated apartments. Extremely fair on your security deposit return. I got almost all of it back except for minor repairs. Usually, landlords will charge you $100 for a small mark on the wall - not JEK. I really was so happy with them, and I have had at least 13 leasing managements in the past 10 years. JEK has been the best without doubt.

I've had similar problems to the ones already described only in addition I've had the cops come to my apartment twice and wrongly acuse me of disturbing the peace because of Jek. Monday morning at 7:30 am I was home alone feeding my baby when a cop buzzed the door to ask about a disturbance. I told him I hadn't heard anything and he left. Came home that night to a notice on my door from Jek saying they have had complaints about fighting in my apartment and if they got any more we would be served with a five day notice. I have a 9 month old baby, if my boyfriend and I have a disagreement we don't even raise our voices so I couldn't understand how this happened. I tried calling the police officer who responded but never got a call back. Last night my boyfriend and I were quietly watching TV when the cops knocked on our door. They had already been buzzed in. They said they were there about fighting, separated us and started giving us the third degree as though they arrived in the middle of a physical altercation. I kept telling them I didn't understand why they kept coming to our place, we were not fighting or being loud. Finally two neighbors came out of the building and told the cops it wasn't us and that the fight which was still in progress was happening on the other side of the building. After the cops left a downstairs neighbor apologized. He said he had called JEK originally to report loud fighting in the building but told them he didn't know which unit it was coming from. At that point someone at JEK suggested to him that it must be us and next time they call to just give our apartment number. JEK also went ahead and put that notice about complaints with a warning we could be evicted on our door based on the information that someone was fighting in the building even though the caller didn't know who it was.
Other issues to consider before renting with JEK...
If you sign a one year lease they will want to know if you are re-signing when you still have four months left and if you are not sure yet or don't sign again immediately they will put a notice on your door saying they are going to start showing your apartment tomorrow. They wanted to start showing our apartment in March when the lease wasn't up until July.
Maintenence people are unprofessional fly by night types without uniforms who do loud work outside of regular construction hours.
Anytime JEK has a small issue they'd like to remedy such as not leaving shoes on a mat outside your door they leave a notice on your door that threatens eviction.
The following issues are specific to the Capitol View Terrace properties...
They have installed these crappy fixtures in the bathroom sink that causes the water to come out in an extremely high pressure mist. As a result when you try to wash your hands the water bounces off and sprays everywhere even though there's barely enough to get them wet. The shower has the same issue. If you have long hair cut it now because you will never get the conditioner rinsed out again.
Water heaters are set illegally hot. For many this may be a good thing but I'm not that crazy about the water getting hot enough to literally burning me in the shower when someone else flushes a toilet in the building.
So many other things I would like to add. I may update this post later.

JEK does not care about their tenants and only care to make money. JEK maintenance employees would drive wherever they please at whatever speeds they pleased around the entire property (grassy areas where children play and emergency vehicle only paths included) and were very rude to tenants when called out on their actions. When this situation was brought up to JEK management staff, we were ignored and then accused of having complaints about our dog barking during the day. We asked for an estimate of what time and about how long our dog was barking so that we could line up the times when the dog was at home(usually with someone home as well) and when the dog was at dog daycare. We also brought up the continual nuisance decisions of the JEK maintenance employees, but were then again completely ignored and just told that there were more complaints about the dog barking. This same argument kept going on for weeks all the while they still could not come up with an estimate of what time the complaints were received and ignored our complaints about the maintenance staff. I'm also not sure if they have permits for all of these renovations they have been doing inside of the units, since I've never seen any posted around the property.

I would not recommend ever even considering working with JEK. Not only does management not know what they are doing and are EXTREMELY unprofessional they will harass you for things you have not done and ignore the problems you bring to their attention. While living at The Ridge I got an emotional support animal who was the sweetest dog you would ever meet. Any issue they would come to us with him we would have either remedied the issue before they said anything to us or would fix it right away. I had talked to other residents in the building about him as he does have a slight separation issue, but at the time I was only gone for 3-4 hours a day, she kindly let me know that he is no problem and maybe barks for 10 minutes and then he quiets down. knowing this made me feel better and I still would walk him and play fetch with him so he would be tired while I was gone. We had gotten no notice of complaints or anything. Then their maintenance started to be in our building ALL day blasting music, screaming down the halls to each other, and doing major construction on a room. I had my water shut off 7 times without the REQUIRED 24 hour notice. Which management didn't even know they were REQUIRED to do when shutting off utilities or else it is know as CONSTRUCTIVE EVICTION. Every time I found out our water was off I was in the bathroom. Now i am sure i am not the only one who really likes to wash their hands after going to the rest room. but according to maintenance i was still able to flush so he didn't see the problem. Maintenance had also drove over the drain pipe next to our window and instead of fixing the issue just set the supplies next to where it should actually be. Which in turn has caused significant damage to the building to the point of it sinking and cracking all the way up the building. All management had to say when we would bring this to their attention was that they got complaints about out dog barking and had maintenance confirm this, When asked for the time of the complaints they could not answer which we found suspicious seeing how he wasn't in the apartment all day and I was gone for only a few hours. We stopped leaving him alone and would bring him to doggy day care, yet apparently they still received complaints of him barking.... However our dog was not the only one we have heard or seen on the property they still said it was our dog that was ruining this "tranquil" environment. Their definition of tranquil must be hearing sex a few buildings down, trailer park noise, drug deals constantly, getting threatened in the parking lot, the loudest most inconsiderate maintenance ever, and staff that doesn't know the laws then you have your home with JEK. Which still has not even contacted us about our security deposit which by law they have 21 days to return it or else we can sue when we moved out almost a month ago. Will be calling them today. So if you want to risk it all make sure you know your renters rights first.

I lived at Town's Edge for over four years. The apartments were of good quality for the price, and the staff were always responsive and friendly. Repairs were always taken care of quickly, and even very minor issues were addressed within a week. It was great for my large dog as well since the pet fees were reasonable and there were no size restrictions. Residents generally kept to themselves, though the walls were pretty thin so you could hear people living above and next to you. My biggest complaint would be that upon move out, you absolutely must have your apartment perfectly spotless to get your security deposit back. I thought I had cleaned it very well (I even remembered to clean the walls, ceiling, and every other nook and cranny I could think of) and hoped that after four years they would understand that the place wouldn't be perfect. However, I only got about half of my deposit back with charges for six hours of cleaning. So be aware that the likelihood of getting most of your deposit back will probably be low. However, I still consider living there a positive experience with staff that were great to interact with. I would recommend these apartments, especially to students or people on a tight budget.

My family and I have lived in 2 different JEK buildings since 2013 and have had a positive experience. The management team has been very responsive to my concerns and any complaints that have come up through the years. When we needed to move from a two bedroom to a three bedroom apartment to accommodate the needs of growing children, they were willing to extend my first lease until a larger apartment was available. I appreciated this greatly.
They sent maintenance over any time I had a concern or something needed to be fixed. Just the other day I happened to see the main maintenance person, I told him our main entrance light was burned out and he immediately replaced it for us.
When noise/parking issues arise, they address them in a timely manner. Some of the buildings are older, noise carries in the hallways, as you would expect in any old building, but when JEK updates an apartment it is beautifully done.
We've rented from other property management companies in Madison and I have to say my best experience has been with JEK. I would definitely recommend JEK to others looking to rent in and around Madison.

JEK was the best rental company I have ever rented with. To be perfectly honest, when dealing with my current landlord I constantly find myself thinking about how I wish I was still with JEK instead. I had to move out of state before my lease ended so I started looking for a sublet. JEK was EXTREMELY helpful with this process and really showed they cared. I never had a problem that wasn't addressed in a short time, and they even called after to confirm everything was all good! My current situation has me chasing down every problem I have and has showed me how much of a headache renting can be. I absolutely recommend checking out this company, after meeting them you will be able to see what I mean.
