Because of its rich musical history, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame often hosts a “Georgia Music Week” once a year. The Georgia State Fair takes place each spring in Macon, with rides, games, food, and contests. The Tubman Pan African Festival also takes place every spring featuring Reggae and African music, cultural demonstrations, dancing and movies. In summer, the Bragg Jam takes place in late July for two days of local bands and DJs performances. Each autumn, the Ocmulgee Native Americans gather at a 12,000 year old historical site to share their heritage with the public. Macon in the winter is rich with events as well, with plentiful holiday events in December, and then the Macon Film Festival in February. Macon is always coming up with new events and shows for the community, so try and keep up!Macon is the hometown of many famous musicians, such as the Allman Brothers Band, Jason Aldean, and Otis Redding. The Allman Brothers Band Museum is inexpensive to gain admission to, and is an interesting showcase of the band’s memorabilia set in the house they lived in for a few years in the 70s. The Hay House, Sidney Lanier Cottage, and Cannonball House are old homes open to the public which offer tours most days. The Museum of Arts and Sciences is somewhat small, but very interesting, as is the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. For outdoor fun, take a relaxing walk on the beautiful Ocmulgee Heritage Trail, or check out one of Macon’s golf courses. There is a big outdoor flea market open Saturdays and Sundays right off of Highway 247 for shopping enthusiasts.
