My individual experience with Roanoke has been wonderful. I have lived here over 1 year (renewed lease once so far). In case you're worried about sound for some reason.. The apartments are 1 story which is nice because there's no one above or below you (less noise than other places). To the reviews that complain about the sound of trash pickup while also complaining there are only 2 dumpsters, I don't understand what you want? More dumpsters = more sound, and trash pickup makes sound anywhere you live. As for the daycare next door.. I still don't see the problem, it's only in session during working hours and you can only hear the kids when you're outside. In my experience, lawn maintenance is in the early evening (does not wake you up..). Can't complain about having nicely trimmed grass and bushes. Each apartment has their own little patio that can fit a grill, small table, and a couple chairs. There's also a small dirt area for gardening, some tenants grow beautiful plants and flowers! You won't find this many other places (especially multi-story apartments). Roanoke is a great place to live if you're looking for a quiet, family-friendly environment. The tenants are primarily adult to senior age, some with children and pets. Roanoke is not known for college-age tenants or parties (hard to find around here), therefore, even less noise! :)
When I was looking at apartments, safety was a deciding factor. Roanoke was the best decision I could have made with regard to safety. The parking lot is well-lit, with lamps along the sidewalks and each apartment has its own door lamp and peep-hole. Plenty of parking. There is no loitering of people who shouldn't be there and the parking lot feels safe any hour of day/night, dark or light. I have never been bothered or approached by anyone. There is also a concrete median along Bardstown Rd in front of the apartment entrance, which takes getting used to (you can only turn right into the complex). BUT this prevents non-tenants from unnecessarily entering the parking lot to turn around or stop for any reason (only tenants or future tenants are on the premises).
Roanoke's location in Louisville could not be more perfect. Not only do you have easy access to every kind of restaurant, fast food, grocery store, gas station, and bank Bardstown Rd has to offer, but you aren't far from anything West, East, or Downtown. You can quickly get to the Watterson or Gene Snyder.
The apartments have a nice utility room for storage with washer/dryer hookups and an attic for additional storage. There is also a laundromat facility onsite. In most apartments, the appliances are brand new or very new (the property manager will let you know). The rent is very reasonable and includes water/trash/sewage. The only other utility bill is electric (no gas). For reference, my electric bill has ranged from $68-110 for a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 adults. Very reasonable considering there is no gas bill and I use a dryer.
If you are an unreasonable person with unreasonable expectations and standards, you won't be happy anywhere! If you are a reasonable person with reasonable expectations and standards, Roanoke is the best choice for apartments in the area. I can't advocate for this place enough. I honestly have zero complaints.
