It's a community rec center's golf club, but it's an excellent facility with 18 hole game and a well maintained club house. They have golf carts included with a tee fee, and waiters will be driving around selling drinks. The course is a little confusing, and we got lost a couple of times. For a beginner I'd say some holes are quite challenging, but you can always go with easy stations. I think a good player will enjoy the course too, it's not easy at all.

Our foursome played the morning of 5-12-2018. Over the past 6 weeks I've played rounds at Twin Lakes (twice), Herndon Centennial and Reston National; Laurel Hill was not only the most expensive course but also in the worst shape. Grass on the tee boxes and fairways was clumpy and limp - laying down, which indicated to me that it was too long - instead of uniform and springy. There were already medium-sized bare areas in the rough along with lots of clover and weeds. This was surprising - even though the weather has been cool and damp, the course looked like it would around mid-summer; now is when the course should be in its prime. I don't see that the course is worth the price now, and the weather will only get hotter.
FOLLOW-UP REVIEW
I've now played Laurel Hill twice since, including today (6-20-18), and the course conditions have dramatically improved. The course is in great shape - not sure what happened with respect to my prior review, but perhaps the rain and overall cool conditions in June revived the course.

There is a nice driving range, chipping, and putting practice area.
The cost is a bit high for a county-owned public course, but it is worth it.
The staff are great. The food and drinks are very good, and priced fairly.
The course was on very good shape. The fairways were just cross cut aerated and the greens were very quick. Plays longer than the scorecard distance. Challenging layout.

One of my favorite courses. Little pricey, I'd be prone to play here for more if it was $80 vs. the $99. Fee includes cart and a small bag if balls. Starters were great, pro shop and restaurant were OK. Course was in great shape, only. Only complaint was it was really soft but that was likely all the rain and not a maintenance issue. Couple of blind shots which I'm not a fan of but otherwise plenty of room and no houses smashed on top of it which I love. Lots of bunkers and the rough was definitely rough. GRASS driving range, also has mats, chipping green and nice putting green. Definitely recommend the course.

I was a Twin Lakes regular until a fellow golfer prompted us to play early this spring. Honestly, this course is significantly nicer in layout and general condition than Twin Lakes. You pay a bit of a premium but for how frequently I play during the Middle Atlantic season, it's inconsequential. I'm a 15 and play weekly.
I've read some remarks here and there re complaints about service. For the past two months I've played at LH, I've found the staff and rangers completely pleasant and reasonable.
Does somebody who's smuggling booze on the course or clogging up foursomes behind you expect to be high fived? Rudeness is probably not necessary but frankly I would be the one who should feel ashamed if I'm caught red handed with my own hooch. (And believe me, I've done that before elsewhere.). As far as the slow play, get your a$$ in gear and stop dawdling with your 115 swats.
Lastly, the course has been a tad wet of late. I suspect the ball marks are more plentiful than usual for the dog days of summer.

Not bad, course was decently maintained. After the 8th hole we were confronted by the "marshall" to speed up as we were supposedly 11 minutes behind pace (mind you cart path only). The way we were told to speed up reminded me of being chastised in middle school by the principle. It was completely unprofessional and was not pleasant whatsoever.
After the confrontation we just felt rushed to go as fast as possible. But keep in mind for $100.00 per player on a 100F day I was pretty shocked. My brother rented clubs, bought a glove etc his outing was close to $200.00.
I write this post in regards to the experience. Once we were rudely told to speed up although we were still on pace per the golf cart notifications after the front nine 1 hr 12 min (we were 4 minutes over max) it was completely out of line.
All in all it was ok. But for the money being pressed like that and ruining the rest of our outing you cannot put a $ value on that.
This was my first time golfing. The course was great and the staff was even greater.

Really well maintained course. Tons of sand. Challenging but not punishing. Bring a lot of balls though; if you lose one you aren't finding it. Greens are very true. Decent rates. Used the driving range, large bag of balls comes with enough balls for 3 people. Lots of birds and rabbits on the course. Lots of plaques talking about the history of the area as well, which is pretty cool. I will be back!
Great public course. Challenging but not punishing. Very reasonably priced.
