I put this review under Avalon Arundel Crossing "East" but it seems like Avalon Arundel Crossing is being marketed as the actual apartment community (which consists of East and West). So this is my review for Avalon Arundel Crossing EAST (note that the East and West apartments look very different, at least from the outside, so I can only accurately give a review of the EAST apartments):
Overall this is a really solid apartment community. The apartment buildings and units are brand new (hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances), and clean. I have lived in some pretty dumpy places before, so I really value this. The main building is also really nice and has a brand new full-service gym, game room, party/event room, etc.
My minor complaints are that my apartment picks up sooo much dust, it's unbelievable. If you are an indoor allergy sufferer, you really will need to take a daily antihistamine and clean your floors at least weekly. When I first moved in it was almost unbearable the way my allergies were; I couldn't sleep or be comfortable. When I started cleaning the floors with the swifter and saw the massive amounts of dust I picked up, I understood why. It's better now because I dust regularly and take a daily allergy med. Another minor negative is that while the immediate area is pleasant, there is literally nothing around the apartment complex. You are right next to the highway and in the other direction are office complexes and apartment-style hotels. If you are looking for a walkable neighborhood, this is unfortunately not it.
Next, be very careful ordering large items. Unless you get confirmation that they will be delivered to your actual apartment unit, they will end up at the leasing office or mail room, and you will have to find a way to hall it to your apartment. And the leasing office is not very nice about trying to help you find you a dolly or something to help you get items to your apartment (actually a few of the leasing staff are nice, but a few are not). The leasing office has also told me that large items were never delivered, only to find out a few days later (after I called the companies to tell them the item hadn't been delivered) the item had be "found" in their back room.
Lastly, this is supposed to be a gated community, yet for almost a year the entry gates have been broken. A couple of months ago they fixed one of the three gates, and literally less than a week later the gate was broken and dangling off to the side. It was a moot point anyways, in terms of security because the other 2 gates were never fixed and remain wide open, and you can get to any building in the complex by going through any gate. I'm sure residents are paying a premium for the gates, so if they are never going to be fixed properly, they should just get rid of them and decrease rent accordingly.
This review may seem harsh, but overall this is still a solid apartment. And the price for the actual quality of the apartments themselves is very good. Apartment has washer/dryer in unit, and nice appliances. I also should mention that they have lots of resident events/socials/food tastings, which are a nice touch.
