Holyoke Community College

Holyoke has joined neighboring Springfield on lists that towns aren’t proud of: most dangerous places in the United States. For example, on Neighborhood Scout’s list of the worst 100, Holyoke is #85 and Springfield is #77. Students should understand that escaping the city, if they go to school in Springfield, doesn’t always mean that the neighborhoods will be much safer. In fact, a lot of communities in Springfield, especially on the eastern side, are safer than in Holyoke. But some students don’t really care about crime stats much, and are focused instead on rent prices, or being close to school. It’s up to you, but if you’re worried about safety than be cautious of where you rent here. Though the famous Mount Holyoke College is located in nearby South Hadley and not Holyoke, there are still a lot of college students in the area. With MHC, HCC, and all the schools in Springfield, students need a place to live off-campus, and Holyoke has the housing to accommodate them. It’s a suburb that provides some much needed separation from the urban maze of Springfield and the buzzing campus over at MHC. As a result, you could easily be in a neighborhood with students from all over the area, not just from the community college.
