Except for one time when they asked me to return my Sears employee discount after 6 months, our stay was rather pleasant at Barrington Lakes Apartment. We lived there for 2 years.
I still remember the day the horrible manager at these apartments sent me an email asking me to return $500 in 2 days or face penalty. It seems she realized the mistake of her colleagues only6 months later. Shocked and Surprised, I visited the manager immediately that evening. I told her the apartment coordinator had known I was a contractor, and yet honored Sears" employee promotion. I expressed my disappointment with her about returning my promotion discount advertised at the time of lease application.
Maybe the apartment office could have processed the promotion incorrectly, however, $500 discount was a major factor affecting my decision to lease with this apartment. Asking back for the money after 6 months seemed like an injustice. Hence I asked for the managers supervisor, and for which she declined immediately, saying I had nobody else to speak to. The decision was final, and I have to cough out the money immediately, otherwise she will take the action. Threatened, I looked up for the leasing company information, and wrote to their CEO and CFO the next day.Luckily, the higher management understood my concern, acknowledge the issue, and apologized. They immediately spoke to the troublesomemanager, and waived off the $500. Also, they sent me a $200 gift, and apologized for the behavior of the manager.
Otherwise, my stay at Barrington Lakes was very memorable. I know the buildings are bit old, however, they have been maintained well. Service teams response is quick. Lot of times these guys appeared first thing in the morning when we reported any issues. A couple of times we had to deal with extreme cold due to leakage of air from A/C vent. However, the service guys fixed itimmediately. You can report anyproblems by calling or even using iOS app.
During our 2 year stay, we saw the management replaced the old and smelly carpet in the corridors in our building. Roads were relaid, and path holes were fixed before they got worse. During the winters, snow was removed from the apartment roads immediately. There are absolutely no bugs in these apartments. Pet control would regularly spray some chemicals to avoid any spread of bugs. Apartment office guys are courteous, and infact would save our Amazon packages securely. They madesure people do not pick others packages from apartment offices. The swimming pools werealways well maintained. Gym was good as well. Tennis court was regularly cleaned. And parking was most times sufficient for our building.
People in other buildings often complained of lack of parking spaces. Since the apartment isvery strict about parking spaces, once our rental car got towed away. That night we forgot to change the parking tag for our rental car. The next day morning, we had to pay a fine of $175. It was very expensive, and painful procedure. They did not provide a sticker for our long term rental vehicle. Thus we had put visitor passes in our car daily. Understandably curbing parking without the use of common sense.
