Its been 2 years since I left West 20 from my 2/2 apartment and I've gone back and forth about posting this review several times and today I felt it needed to be heard. I lived there for 2 years before I left in November of 2016. The complex is great as far as location, very convenient to get to UF, the grocery store, and the other shopping area is a quick 10 min walk or 5 min drive to Archer Plaza. The community staff and maintenance team were always helpful, nice and great to have around probably the best part about living there to be honest. I can not say the same about the leasing staff. Since I moved in in 2014 (when the complex was still the Estates) the leasing staff has gotten worse every year. They are unprofessional, unhelpful with roommate issues, and are really only concerned about you paying your rent on time. The rates increased from around $500 for the 2/2 to about $650 when the Scion company took over and the complex changed to West 20. One thing I liked about the Estates is they offered previous tenants a lower rate the next year if they were going to continue leasing, West 20 didn't provide any deal like that other than raising the rent by $150. Personally the renovations and change of appliances and furniture wasn't quite worth the $150 increase in rent in my opinion, on top of the change with the utilities, and its definitely not worth the hassle for dealing with the leasing staff. To make my long story below short, you can find better complexes to live in for a better price and with better main staff (location may not be as close but better is out there).
This story is just one example of why I left the complex because the leasing staff was very unprofessional when it came to complaints. The property manager was also never on site for weeks at a time. I've had 3 different roommates during my 2 years of living in the same building, the last one being the worst. My matching has always been with quiet and very clean roommates but the last one was not the case. Jason, the last leasing manager working there when I was a resident and he made it a mission to bring my roommates complaints to me, going as far as to chase me down when I was walking home from the bus. Which her complaint about my boyfriend living there wasn't worth bringing to my attention since she also had her boyfriend living there, unless he was kicking both of our boyfriends out there was no reason to bring this to my attention. I however made several complaints about my uncleanly roommate and her boyfriend who consistently didn't clean the common area, left dog piss on the floors till it was dried down, and left the patio full of dog feces on the balcony area for weeks at a time and lets not forget the dog wasn't registered to live there (no pet deposit paid or anything). Lets also not forget that the cops were called on my roommate when her and her boyfriend had an argument and were disturbing the complex grounds and my roommate threatening me, which none of these complaints were handled in the same matter or taken seriously. Jason said he'd contact her by email or when he gets a recent number from her, when in reality he made no effort to do either.
That personally does not sit with me well. If you're going to allow another tenant to break that many regulations, threaten another tenant, cause a disturbance to the community to the point where the police were involved and not handle that tenant accordingly by making some room changes or even speaking to them about the problems then its not worth my money, time, or well being to continue living where I do not feel comfortable or safe. Like I said, the other amenities, maintenance staff, and resident/community staff were very nice and helpful, they were prompt and tactful in communicating with residents. So if you don't mind the terrible leasing staff, the place really is great.
