Daytona Beach is known for its special events, like Speedweeks races, the 400 races, Bike Week and Biketoberfest, the Turkey Run, and of course, Spring Break events. There is also a National Cheerleading Championship held here. NASCAR events are one of Daytona Beach’s biggest draws, and Daytona is actually one of the few places on the planet you can drive a car on the beach if you want. If you’re not into cars, you’ll get sick of Daytona real fast! As of October 2012, the unemployment rate in Daytona Beach was about 8.4%. While not the lowest of metro areas, it has been steadily declining since its peak in 2010. Daytona Beach is a tourist town, and if the economy is bad and tourists are not frequenting it, it suffers. The biggest employers in town are the County Schools, Halifax Hospital, and the colleges.
