Cheap and best place. Repair and maintenance service is quick. Near to 'nature' and 'university'. Swimming pool is good. Some apartments are of old type things. Utility bill is slightly higher side.

UPDATE: Still upset with how long it took to get the pot issue resolved and what the receptionist did is inexcusable, but the pot issue seems to be an isolated incident. I've recommended a few of my friends to live here given the solution of my prior issues and how great Diane(the manager) both in temperament and management. The repair team is also friendly, prompt and professional. My prior concerns and issues included: 1. The receptionist named Sara telling the former tennants of my apartment that I was the one taking it(they ended up having to switch apartments because they didn't re-sign soon enough). That's actually a serious legal privacy issue. Fortunately, the former tennants don't seem to be the grudge-holding type. 2. Someone in my apartment building is smoking pot nearly every night. I have an allergy to the stuff and it sneaks into my place via the air vents, leaving me with constant migraines. Though when you sign with Ashland Manor, they do require you to sign a statement saying you will not do illegal things in your apartment. If you are busted for it, they can evict you. They caught the guy smoking pot in my complex (and he was taken to jail), but the manager decided to give the guy a second chance (even though we were all given a written warning as well). Two weeks go by without incident and now he's smoking again, but won't answer the door to the cops.

There are many pros and cons to living at Ashland Manor. I lived there for two years. Pros: The grounds are kept pretty clean and the access to the trails is nice. Also, the pool access and tennis courts were a plus for the price of the apartment. The master bedroom is HUGE and so is the closet. It is walking distance from campus which was really nice. I enjoyed the scenery while living here. Cons: Ron the maintenance guy is rude. My a/c never worked so I opened the windows to get some air flow. When he came in to fix it he told me my problem was because I had the windows open. Kind of a smart ass, don't you think? The a/c was never fixed the entire time I lived there despite multiple calls to the office of my apartment being 85 degrees. If you live upstairs, good luck because you're looking at $150 utility bills. Also, there was a leak in my roof which dripped onto my bed. When maintenance came to fix it, they said there was nothing wrong, yet there was a hole in my ceiling. I had a leak in my bathroom and didn't hear maintenance knock at my door, which they thought I wasn't home (understandable). One of the maintenance workers didn't bother to knock on my bedroom door though after he came in, so he walked in on me sleeping, woke me up, and continued to work after he acknowledged that I was sleeping. I later found out that he had used my roommate's toilet because there was pee all over the seat, but my roommate had been out of town for two days. My apartment also had a bee issue. I told the office manager and she said they were just carpenter bees and they would go away--only after they had made their bee hive on my porch and burrowed into the exterior wall (they're called carpenter bees for a reason). There is also black mold down in the storage unit. We used to store clothes and furniture down there, but removed it because the mold in our storage locker had settled on everything. Lastly, my boyfriend and I have been moved out for over a month, and we still have not received our security deposits in which we are legally obligated to take action against them because they have had over 30 days to send it to us.

My husband and I enjoyed living here. The manager was super easy to work with and understanding. The grounds are always kept nice. Whenever we had a problem, maintenance responded within 24 hours and had the issue fixed. It is close the walking trails and the Grindstone nature area. It has a pool and tennis court, which are great places to meet friendly neighbors. Most of the people living here are young families and internationals and we have enjoyed getting to know some of them! This is a great place to live in my experience and it is one of the best priced!

(1) Had a massive leak in my kitchen for 2 years; notified management 5 times in writing, it was never adequately fixed; (2) management, Verna, is unintelligible, incoherent, forgetful and impossible to deal with; her job basically consists of making excuses for why things didn't get done; (3)The apartment was moldy and absolutely filthy. I left the apartment CLEANER than how I found it and they actually kept over half of my $250 deposit for a "cleaning fee" -- ha! (4) It took 2 phone calls, one letter, one certified letter, and 6 months to get HALF of my deposit back. I was ignored and brushed off with lame excuses like: "I don't remember you calling" "I didn't get your message" "I didn't get your letter, etc, etc. (5) Apartment was full of brown recluses. Had 10+ bug traps consistently full; neighbors found a SNAKE in their kitchen Don't let the exterior fool you. Do not live here. Probably the worst apartment experience ever.
