About 65% of students at DU live off-campus somewhere around River Forest. River Forest itself has limited apartment options, so most opt to live in Oak Park, or Elmwood Park. DU provides a listing service for students to find roommates or available apartments linked through its website. One-bedrooms cost at least $750/month, so its recommended so consider a studio for around $625/month, or find a roommate. There are some options around $1500 for three- or four-bedrooms, which mean individual rent could be as low as around $375/month. River Forest has a few popular bars, though none are especially high quality, save perhaps FatDuck, Molly Malone’s, or Goldyburger’s. House Red Vinoteca is really good for winos, but expensive. Healy’s Westside is a pretty good pub, as is the Beacon. If you head to Oak Park, Bar Louie and TGI Friday’s are popular with college-aged students. There’s no dancing, comedy, or karaoke around here as far as I know. Keep in mind that the DU campus is just a 20-minute car ride from Chicago, and it’d be worth it to head there for some more nightlife options.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
