Gimghoul Neighborhood Summary

Gimghoul is one of Chapel Hill’s oldest and most beloved historic districts, located right outside of UNC-CH’s campus. This area is not only beloved for its beautiful historic homes and close proximity to the university, but also for its famous landmarks and folklore. The neighborhood is surrounded by Battle Park, a large wooded piece of land that is home to the Forest Theater – a lovely amphitheater that hosts outdoor performances – and the strange Gimghoul Castle, said to be the headquarters of a UNC-CH’s secret society. Though many of the houses in this area are picturesque residences meant for UNC-CH professors, there are a select few properties that can be a great find for grad students or college students who want a little extra peace and quiet.
