Just 22 miles south of Milwaukee, Racine is a quaint town on the shores of Lake Michigan popular with commuters and families. It offers a cheaper alternative to Milwaukee and Chicago rents — in fact, a recent study named it “The Most Affordable Place in the World.” But you don’t have to be in the homebuying market to take advantage of Racine’s affordability. Here are five Racine apartments that won’t break the bank.
Lakeshore Village
This large, 10-acre complex in the center of Racine is just steps from everything the city has to offer: restaurants, bars, shopping, and of course Lake Michigan. Residents enjoy a park-like setting, centered upon a huge pool surrounded by grilling and picnic areas. The recently remodeled interiors aren’t too shabby, either, with brand-new appliances, flooring, and cabinetry.
Mitchell Wagon Lofts
These apartments might be located in a former wagon factory, but don’t worry: You won’t be working on any broken axles. Instead, you’ll live in modern luxury, surrounded by the past. With exposed brick, high (think 14 to 20 feet) ceilings, and huge skylights, these lofts are airy, spacious, and comfortable. The management company is making a concerted effort to attract artists and creatives: There’s a darkroom and a kiln on-site.
920 South Main Street
This towering, historic home has a lot of character. Located in the heart of downtown, just steps from Gateway Tech, it features hardwood floors, antique touches, and high ceilings. Plus, check out the bay windows! Two floorplans are available, but both are relatively open, with kitchen, dining, and living rooms flowing seamlessly into each other.
4025 Sheridan Avenue
If you’ve ever dreamed of living right on the water, this is your place. This apartment is as close as you can get. It features hardwood floors, a recently remodeled (and modernized) kitchen, and huge windows looking over Lake Michigan. The complex is small, and has a gazebo on-site available for tenants to catch the lake breeze. Your dog (cats are allowed as well) will love the grassy hill behind the complex.
The Maples
The Maples offers studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms in a variety of floorplans. The entire complex was recently remodeled, and apartments now feature hardwood floors, new appliances and cabinetry, as well as new bathroom fixtures. The location is just west of downtown, but still conveniently located near a variety of restaurants, groceries, and schools.
