Berkeley City College

BCC’s location in the center of Berkeley makes public transportation the easiest way to commute to class if your apartment is near a stop as well. Right across the street from BCC is the Downtown Berkeley train station, which allows students to hop on two routes. The first is the Fremont/Richmond line, and the second is the Daly City/Millbrae line. Taking the train can commute you to any region of the Bay Area, and best of all, it perfectly fits a student’s schedule. They run early in the morning and late at night, and students will never have to wait long for a train to arrive. Buses are also a great way to get around, and bicycling is a very popular form of transportation here, too. Berkeley isn’t known as one of the most educated cities in America because of BCC. Although the school is definitely part of it, most of the local academic attention is paid to the University of California Berkeley, which is the oldest and best school in the well-regarded state system. As a result, the demographics of the area show above-average numbers of residents in their late teens and early 20s, as well as older adults who hold a college degree. And, of course, you can’t mention the city’s demographics without noting that it has a very liberal reputation, perhaps more so than anywhere else on the West Coast.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
