Morehouse College

Morehouse College is best known for being the alma mater of Martin Luther King Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Spike Lee, to name a few famous alumnus. The school is the only historically black, all-male private school in the country. The student body is smaller than average with an enrollment of around 2,500 (all of which are men, and the vast majority are African-American). Aside from its one-sided gender and ethnic statistics, the student body is also considered one of the smartest in Atlanta. Morehouse has a top-notch academic reputation, and has been ranked one of the best liberal arts schools in the nation in many fields. Morehouse’s campus is sandwiched in between Atlanta’s Ashview Heights and Castleberry Hill neighborhoods, and is just a mile away from downtown Atlanta. Students on the east side of campus could easily walk to downtown, and there are plenty of nearby off-campus apartment buildings that are also within walking distance. Students who go here and neighboring schools like Spelman and Morris Brown study hard during the week and take advantage of their close proximity to Atlanta’s best culture on the weekend. If you’re into art, movies, theater, great food, music, or sports, you will love Atlanta’s nightlife on the weekend.
