What makes it great is the staff -- like anyone living somewhere for a long stretch of time, some kind of issue would pop up now and again. Whenever I had something to raise, a staff member was quick to deliver personalized help to ensure I was living well. This was consistent throughout my three years there.
Other great perks to note are the location (especially regarding nearby conveniences) and the maintenance staff who were always very quick responders. My space was also very good when it came to hot water -- there was almost no wait for it.
It never bothered me too much, but there is a noticeable amount of light at night and noise from the traffic through the day, especially during the early afternoon when there would often be multiple trucks backing up at the same time. We lived close to the ground floor, so I do not know if this is an issue for higher-up apartments. Additionally something else to note is the parking garage and entryway are very narrow. We smoothly adjusted, but it should be noted for potential future residents either way.
The reason I recommend it as a starter apartment is because the space is a bit small. For a one-bedroom, the rates are pretty reasonable for the area, but it's still a lot of money in general. The only reason I moved is because my finacee and I outgrew the space, and the rates for a two-bedroom (which I believe is the only larger space offered) jump really high.
If you plan to rent a space temporarily for a few years while looking for somewhere bigger in the long run, then it's an excellent home if Arlington is your area.
